problem with GPS alert 200

Question

I have a small problem with my GPS alert 200. I downloaded the update software from the website (gpsprevent.com) and when I connect my device to the USB port for the update, it indicates: one of the devices connected to this computer has malfunctioned and Windows does not recognize it.

You need to reset your device by following the procedure below:

Installation of G200 software V1.2

Go to the gpsprevent.com website to download the latest version of the software: G200 V1.2

If your GPS is frozen and you can no longer do anything, don't panic, and follow the procedure below:

Install the software from the website.
Once the software is installed, follow the procedure below:

1- Connect the USB cable to your PC (do not connect the cable to the G200)

2- Launch the G200 V1.2 software

3- Click on the "reset" tab

4- Click on the "Reset" button and wait for several seconds until the file loads

5- Connect the USB cable to the G200 while pressing the "Volume down" button (you must keep the button pressed)

6- Wait for about 12 seconds. Once the progress bar appears, release the "Volume down" button

7- Wait until a message appears, indicating that the update is complete

8- Close the software and disconnect your G200

You need to rename your comX port which changed to another com port number on the second connection, because on the first connection the download worked

Actually, I had the same problem, on the first connection (com port 3), I downloaded the update, then I got stuck because the port was renamed to 4; why? I don’t understand.

So I renamed com port 4 to com port 3, and it works every time for now, let's hope it lasts, I did 4 or 5 attempts and each time it connects.

So the procedure to rename port 10 to 9:

right-click on "My Computer"

click on "Manage"

click on "Device Manager"

click on + (com ports) locate the prolific port, then right-click on USB prolific (com10)

then in the ports window look for port X, it is probably marked as occupied, logically since it is the one the device wants, so click on it to replace and click OK

Actually, it's a conflict that occurs during the second connection on certain PCs very probably.

I just changed the port number and it works anyway. I just gave it back the 4 and it works too.
with com29 etc.. etc..

So I think you should start by renaming port X. This procedure will only work once you have identified the first com port number that the PC originally assigned to the prolific ISB, otherwise try some guesswork, in any case, it’s probably one of the "in use" com ports that the G200 is connected to; to identify it simply do some disconnections and reconnections of the G200 while having a minimum of devices connected to the PC, like printers etc... while you identify it.

Hello I also have the same issue as you. I have changed the device twice and it works for the first update each time. Then, the device no longer connects. I don't believe the problem is with XP as I just reinstalled it after a crash and my G200 still doesn't connect. I have tried on several PCs without success. My reseller doesn't understand either. Some devices work and others do not.@+

I had posted about a month ago a message because my G200 wouldn't update, it wouldn't connect to the PC, and my problem has been resolved.
In fact, you need to connect your G200 to the PC, open the software, and go to the "reset" section, check "automatic reset," and then press the "reset" button.

Regarding the update for the g 200, I sent an email to the manufacturer and here is their response:

If the automatic connection is not working
- connect the warning device via USB
go to the "Device Manager" control panel
and locate the port number for the Prolific serial to USB device
- in the connection tab, select manual connection and choose the same port.

If the update doesn't work
- download the manual update file from the "Downloads" page corresponding to the g200
- in the connection tab, click automatic connection
- in the update tab, click browse and select the file you just downloaded (orion)

I haven't tried it yet, I hope it goes well!

For all GPS connection problems 200

disconnect the GPS to start.

1- download the software here: http://www.gpsprevent.com/telechargement.asp?p=G200&l=en
2- when the software has loaded, connect the GPS 200 that the computer indicates is not recognized.
3- in the unrecognized window, update the driver, select "install from a list...."
check "include the folder" and enter just below "c\\windows\\inf"
4- the update is immediate
5- then launch the GPS200 program v 1-2

1- automatic connection tab: click on the automatic connection tab (about 10 seconds for the search)

2- update tab: click on the update tab (about 1-2 minutes)

3- voice tab: - download the voice file from the website in the voice messages tab, take the complete file at the bottom left and save it in a place easy to find.

- I think I had to disconnect the GPS at each step there!!!

4- reconnect the GPS and go to the voice tab

5- browse and find the voice file you saved and update (if the update icon is greyed out, restart the software)

6- after this update proceed to the reset step (may need to turn off and on the program again).

disconnect the GPS, press the reset icon and wait for the bar to fill and turn grey

there press the button at the bottom left of your GPS while plugging the USB cable into the right slot

wait 15 seconds for the bar to display and release the button, and wait until the update completed message appears.

you download at the bottom of the page "manual update" which you save somewhere you can find it. It's a file "orion G200.cof". How to know the update date of this file? Week after week the file size increases (currently 1164 Ko).

Then in the GPS G200 program, you select manual update.

Hello,  I recently purchased the G100 and I'm having some issues; after the first installation and update with the date display, the device was functioning correctly.  After a second update, there was no sound and no light................even the fixed radars are not recognized!!!!!  I bought it at Netto (I know, it's the first and last time for this kind of item) the manager had contact with their hotline which explained that I needed to press the sound button (located at the bottom left on the top of the device)  Seeing no correlation between the absence of sound and the non-detection of fixed radars, they returned the entire unit to their supplier. :(

I just bought a GPS alert 300. It worked well when I bought it.   I traveled 60 km with the alert connected to the cigarette lighter.   Three hours later, I wanted to install the software on my computer. At first, everything worked well, but when it came time to set the voices, there was no longer any light or sound signal.   I saw on a forum that it needed a fully charged battery, like a mobile phone, and that it should take 12 hours; otherwise, it wouldn't emit any signal.   After 2-3 hours of charging, there's still no signal, and my computer doesn't recognize it for updates of voices or new speed cameras.   If it takes 12 hours to get any signal at all, it's a scam, or the alert is defective.   Thank you for your help.

2) Vista compatible software downloaded from the site;
3) easy update of the alert file;
4) acceptable accuracy of those alerts;
5) low bulkiness.
6) complete accessory kit: wall charger with red/green light for discharged/charged, charger/power supply for the car battery (it allows operation without Li ion battery);
7) removable Li ion battery.

the less good:
1) useless installation CD: you have to download the Vista compatible version from the site;
2) no details on first use (should the battery - which is also a removable type like a mobile phone - be charged for 12 to 14 hours like portable phones?);
3) relative slowness of response compared to the Garmin 60CSX which is also more precise;
4) brightness, although sufficient even in full sunlight, remains too high: the variation is ineffective;
5) the sound remains too high even at the lowest level (my vehicle is quiet even at high speed);
6) currently unable to download voice messages;
7) questionable autonomy. (the model alertGPS 200 would therefore be sufficient);
8) no case.

With Windows XP: As a G200 owner for about 2 years, I had never managed to update it on the site; I kept receiving messages like: device not connected, a device connected to this computer has malfunctioned...etc. The only way I could update it was by performing a complete reset. I tried several methods described in this forum: the only one that has worked for me for 2 months in a row (this is a first!!!) is as follows: - G200 update file + port installed on the computer. - Before starting my computer, I connect my G200 to the supplied USB cable (which stays permanently connected to the computer) - I start the computer and then the internet - I open the previously downloaded G200 update file, click as indicated on "automatic connection" and my G200 returns the message "connection established." Then click on update... and it works for me!

I COMPLETE MY QUESTION!: Does it come from the driver being poorly installed? I can see it in the programs PL-2303-USB serial drivers. I also find it in Regedit. But when I go to 1) system properties 2) device manager 3) USB bus controllers, I have the port connected as UNKNOWN DEVICE. I have tried with several ports and still have the same problem. I think it’s something simple, but I can’t figure it out (maybe the cable of the G200 is defective, I also tried with my cable from my Sony digital camera, the G200 lights up well and finds the satellites, but still, this unknown device problem that does not recognize the driver). Hello,  I also have a G200. I tried to update it. Everything started well and suddenly the blue screen (my PC crashes and restarts).  I reconnect my G200. It doesn't turn on.  I reinstalled the driver.  I decide to reset it automatically first. I followed the indicated steps. I unplug my G200, click the reset button, wait 2 seconds, press the volume buttons on the G200 (3 red dots light up), plug it into the PC and when the gauge appears I release the buttons. So far, so good.  The gauge goes all the way the first time, then restarts, it stops halfway and remains stuck. Nothing happens.  Same thing in manual  I can’t update my G200. The software says it’s not connected.  I have Windows Vista  Can someone help me, please?  I hope it’s not ruined  I left messages on the alertegps site but no response  Thank you in advance

Be careful with Windows 7 Pro software, the digital signature does not exist because of Microsoft! After several phone calls, I stood my ground with the device manufacturer to tell them; they treated me like an idiot! In terms of advice, I reported it to my computer seller... he spent 4 and a half hours trying to create the signature, charging 60 euros plus phone fees for the 0 800. So be cautious if you have Windows 7 Pro.
