Hello,
Can you help me? My GPS won't start when I turn it on, it freezes on the message "loading maps." I tried to reset it but the problem comes back... Is there a solution?? Thank you for your help

Configuration: Windows Vista / Internet Explorer 7.0

Hello Gils 30,

I'm having exactly the same problem with my Garmin GPS 1340, have you found a solution to unlock it?

Thanks in advance for your response.

Sorry Laura10, but no response for now. I think it's because I didn't do any internet updates on the anniversary of my purchase; the cards may have been erased?
If you have a solution, I'm interested. Thanks.

Good evening, the internet update on the Garmin site has fixed the problem. Everything works and even better than before regarding satellite recognition.

Hello, I have the same problem but even worse, the computer doesn't even recognize the device when I plug it in.
I haven't done the updates either.
The message it gives me is "card downloading..."
It's a Garmin nüvi 1350.

Struggling with my Nuvi 1340... exactly the same symptoms as Ben. "Loading maps" and the device is not recognized by Garmin's updater software (nor by any PC for that matter)...

If anyone has a solution...

Hello, my GARMIN nuvi 1340 froze while driving. That evening, when I tried to turn it back on, it got stuck on the very first GARMIN screen, with nothing written below. I was able to turn it off and on again, but nothing else happened... while looking online, I saw these stories about turning it on by pressing on the screen, the G, at the bottom, at the top... nothing worked, I tried several times to disconnect it from the PC and reconnect it... then finally, after holding down the ON button for a long time with one finger at the bottom left and the other at the top right, it unlocked... I don't know the exact reason for the unlocking.
However, I noticed that the battery was dead once the GPS started up... which was strange because it froze while it was connected in the car and remained so... Anyway, maybe wait for a complete discharge then wait for it to charge a bit and try these manipulations...
That's all, folks...

J'ai eu le même problème, c'était un défaut du GPS. Je l'ai acheté à Feu Vert, il est parti en SAV. Garmin m'a donné un GPS tout neuf, merci Garmin.

I also had to send it in for repair, and I was told that GARMIN would exchange it for a brand new GPS if they couldn't resolve the issue. I'm hoping I can use it again in the coming weeks.

It took me 15 days to leave mine for repair and get a brand new one, it was quick.

Hello

Same issue at startup, screen stuck on logo after an update
Since I had it for 18 months and it has a 2-year warranty, I sent it back after contacting Garmin support: they sent me a brand new one within 10 days with a refund for the shipping costs. On my Garmin account, I just need to do the updates from the old GPS to the new one, or not, as I wish... Nothing to say except for the loss of time...

Hello Ben, do a free update on the Garmin site, it fixed my problem of maps getting stuck while loading
Good luck

How do you deal with a GPS that won't connect? When I start it, there's a download bar that gets stuck at 15%, and it doesn't turn on when I put it in the car (map loading).

Hello,
I feel like many of us have the same problem...

Does anyone have a GPS that's out of warranty, and has Garmin done anything???

For my part, it starts to charge when I connect it to my PC, but the download bar stops at 15%, and I also can’t connect it to the car (map is loading).
So, it's impossible to update it via the website.

Thanks in advance.

Hello
The maps haven't been erased, please try updating the browser again, which is free on the Garmin website, it may fix all this.

Hello; my device, with supposedly a lifetime free map update! Well, in fact, my GPS is no longer recognized; unless I want to buy a map for 89 euros! What a scam! My device is a Nuvi 1340T.

Good evening
I just saw your message; I have the same Garmin Nuvi 1340T GPS from 2010; I have never done an update: if you say it is no longer recognized; is there any point in going to the store to do the update? What did you do? THANK YOU FOR RESPONDING

It's written on the purchase box: subject to subscribing to a nüvi lifetime offer within 90 days of purchase.

Hello... I have the same problem but my computer does not recognize it. What should I do, please?

Hello
it doesn't stay at 15% indefinitely, you need to wait 20 minutes or more and it disconnects at the end.

I also had these GPS 1340 startup issues for several minutes, even driving 100km without it turning on. A while back, I had uploaded a photo of my old car that appeared after Garmin, I deleted it by connecting my GPS to my computer and I also deleted the photo of Garmin's headquarters, and now it's working perfectly, ready to use in less than a minute. Maybe my solution will help some people.

To reset the Garmin 1340... you need to press the power button for 12 seconds.

Following an update of the maps that I just performed, the GPS (Garmin 1340) would not restart. Following your reply, I pressed the "power" button for 12 seconds as you recommended and "oh miracle" the GPS turned on, the updates were installed (all in English!) and then the GPS prompted me to do a RESTART (which I did) and now the GPS works perfectly normally.
===> THANK YOU for this information because this is not the first time I have done an update (I opted for a "lifetime subscription", meaning I can do as many updates as I want), but this is the FIRST TIME I encountered a problem with the GPS restarting.
How did you know about pressing the power button for 12 seconds???

Hello,

It is even recommended to hold down the power button for a good twenty seconds. This is what's called a RESET.
