Snapchat drains iPhone battery

Hello,

I have an iPhone 5 and I'm with Bouygues. I've been using the "Snapchat" app for about 3 months now and I've realized that as soon as I use the app, it "drains my battery."

Let me explain with an example:

My Snapchat app is closed, I'm at 80% battery.
I open my app, send a couple of snaps, and in a few seconds, I'm down to 50% battery.
However, if I plug in my charger right after, my iPhone goes back to 80%.

I think there's a problem with the "gauge" that indicates the battery percentage. This only happens with Snapchat.

Some might say it's not a big deal since I know I have battery left, but the issue is more complicated when I'm at 30% battery because when I open the app and send a few snaps, the gauge drops below 10%... the iPhone thinks it has no battery left and shuts down.
It's impossible to turn it back on because it demands a connection to the charger...

Have you ever had this issue or a solution to my problem?

Thank you!
Gaëtan

Ps: I've noticed online that I'm not the only one having issues with this app, whether on iOS or Android, maybe it's not quite ready?

I have exactly the same problem with two other apps: Facebook and Clash of Clans.

And something allows me to assert that it’s not just a battery problem because after 5/10 minutes I can turn my iPhone back on without charging it, and the battery is at 60%... It's as if below 50% battery some apps make the phone turn off.
It seems to only happen on apps using 3G.

Clash of Clans is a big game, right? The best experience is on a tablet and not on a phone :)

    Response to "esein":

    Okay, thanks for your info.
It's true that the comparison with 3G isn't stupid because it often happens to me when I'm in a place where the signal is weak (frequent switching between Edge and 3G).

I really thought it was due to the "Snapchat" app because it's been making headlines online with security issues, but apparently not...

As for the "restarting" after 10 minutes, I've never tried it but I'll give it a shot next time; I think it will help me out, thanks for the tip!

Have you found a solution to the problem?

Well, I think I have really found where the problem comes from, and it's simply impossible to fix. I have an iPhone 4s, and if you have a version equal to or earlier, your problem probably comes from that: older iPhones were not designed to support the new iOS 7 well and therefore consume a lot of battery and cause other battery-related problems.
Now, it remains to be seen whether even the new iPhones are experiencing the same issue.

I switched from an iPhone 4S to an iPhone 6 because I had battery issues. I also feel like it's because of my use of Snapchat... Because it mostly started after I downloaded the app.
My battery wouldn't even last a day, and now, with the 6, it lasts a day at most... Which is better but not great...! I'm looking for other causes... But we can't say it's the iOS!!!?

The security issues of the Snapchat application are not related to battery consumption.

I also think it's a problem with Snapchat and Facebook. Some battery management apps call them "vampire apps." I'm having the same issue with a Galaxy Note 4. I've never had this problem before using Snapchat more often. I even feel like this app has either destroyed my battery (by increasing the charging cycle) or my phone's software. The longer I stay on Snap, the more my phone heats up, whether on Wi-Fi or 3G, it's the same issue. The remedy?? Either uninstall Snap, buy a new battery, stay plugged in (except that usually, Snaps are done outdoors), or hope that Android or Snap do something about this problem. But battery management apps (even my best ones) don't change anything.

Exactly the same thing. I have a Galaxy Note 4 and as soon as I connect to Snapchat with the filters, for example, my phone shuts down and restarts, losing all of its battery percentage.
When I'm outside, I only have the option to take out the battery and wait. Then, when I turn it back on, I regain my lost percentage. My battery drains faster and faster. I will go change it soon, hoping it will be better afterwards.

I have exactly the same problem; I also noticed that this issue comes from the app "snapchat" which completely bugs the battery gauge, causing it to drop in a completely random manner. However, if you plug the iPhone into the outlet, it immediately resumes the charge it had before opening Snapchat.

I'm having the same issue since today; wouldn't the problem be coming from Snapchat instead?

Hello everyone, I used to have an iPhone 5, the same problem as the other one, and when it was below 40%, I would open "Snap" and it would drop directly to 1%.
Not to mention the overheating hot enough to cause melting...
Super annoying, so I then replaced it with a 5C. "Snap" drains my battery quickly, sure, but I don't have problems like I did with the 5. I just see my percentage going down little by little. The problem comes from neither Snap nor iOS. The problem comes from the 5. That's why the 5 is no longer for sale and the 5C is its update in a way. If you think your iPhone is too old and you need a brand new iPhone 5, it's unnecessary; I tested it. I went to "Apple" and got a new 5 and the same problem occurred. How to fix the problem? Switch to 5C, 5S, 6, or 6 Plus :)

    Good luck :)

Same problem with Snapchat on iPhone 6, I'm tired of having to reconnect my phone every time I want to use Snapchat, so I'm deleting the app.

Yes, I ordered the iPhone 6 (the battery of my iPhone 5 didn't last half a day) and I'm having the same battery life issue, so I ordered a business gold battery: http://king-mobile.com/achat/1400-batterie-iphone-6-haute-capacite-business-gold-2850mah.html with a larger capacity. I installed it myself, being careful, and the result is that it holds a charge much better—I've gained about 40% battery life. My iPhone 6 used to last about 24 hours with a full charge before changing the battery, and now I can expect around 32 - 35 hours.

    Hello,

I had Snapchat on my old iPhone 5 that was a year old, and I had the same problem; it drained the battery a lot (below 30% it would just shut down, and when I plugged it in, the battery was still at 30%...)
Since I got my new iPhone, sure it uses a bit of battery, but it's reasonable now and no more issues!

I am also facing the same problem as you. I went to see APPLE, and they told me that the app "snap chat" was causing issues with the battery because it is supposedly "not designed for this application."
    Good luck...

No, he doesn't "screw up" the battery like you said, because in reality, there is always battery left. It's a "gauge" problem.
I wanted to know if anyone has ever had this issue and if they made any particular adjustment or found a solution.

Thanks for the tip anyway! ^^'

Well, I have the same problem too... BUT I HAVE A SOLUTION!
I go to Settings>Battery and I turn off the percentage. Normally, you shouldn't see your percentages anymore, just the gauge. And since I've done that, even when there's the alert message "Battery 10%", it doesn't turn off! Not even on SnapChat! But outside, I don't know why it just turns off all of a sudden... ugh
And sorry for the late response that won't help at all.

û_u No problem in your story... SnapChat Dummy your battery point û_u. There’s no grandmother's remedy that can help it :/ Except for tips like:

    Leave your phone charging xD
