connecting a vinyl turntable to a mini system Solved

Question

Hello everyone.
I have a little issue, could you enlighten my ignorant lantern...
I wanted to connect my old turntable (nostalgia!!)
to my mini stereo, but the problem is that even when I turn my hi-fi to maximum volume, the sound remains very low. What could be causing this and what should I do to solve the problem?

Hello,
The problem definitely comes from the input on your system, which is an AUX input and not a PHONO input. This means there is no sound amplification. The solution: install a preamp between the AUX input of the mini system and the turntable.

so you must have to connect your chain to AUX... Unfortunately, AUX inputs are sometimes not great, well it depends on the gear, and it may be that the output of your player is damaged.

I have exactly the same problem as you. I tried to connect my mother's turntable to my mini stereo, but the sound is very, very low. However, I’m sure (having tried) that the turntable connected to my mother’s old hi-fi system gives a more than decent sound level... I don't know much about this field and I'm still looking for a solution, if you found one... HEEELP!!! :-D

SOLUTION: You absolutely need a phono preamp.

Either a dedicated vinyl preamp (but it's expensive because it's not commonly manufactured, and generally it's high-end equipment), or a small DJ mixer (for a basic one, expect to pay around 20 € on eBay).

So, connect the 2 RCA cables from the turntable to the mixer, along with the ground wire, and connect the output from the turntable to the mini system. And that's it...

Good to know: with a bigger budget because this type of product is very recent, some mixing tables come with a direct USB2 output! Perfect for ripping your records to mp3!! Also, Stanton (among others) sells a turntable that comes with a USB output. A good purchase for those who are ripping an entire collection of vinyls.

I did the same thing on my turntable and some interference persisted even though there were no grounding issues, until I realized that the problem was actually coming from my freebox, which was causing interference!

I just had to unplug everything and plug it back in another corner of the apartment (yeah, when you only have 20 m2...). Just trying to help.

Hello and Merry Christmas!

I just gifted my parents a semi-automatic turntable that includes a RIAA amplifier, supposedly ideal for connecting to a mini hi-fi system. However, when I try to connect the two white and red plugs from the turntable to the aux output on the system, they are too narrow. I don't see any other suitable outputs available on the system (at the back there are video outputs: green, blue, and red; at the front, there are USB, phones, and aux outputs).

plug your turntable into your aux input on the front, if the input is a jack then I advise you to buy a
jack plug 3.5 or 6 mm depending on your input from neutrix it’s a bit pricey but it’s top notch
gold plated, no quality loss of the signal
and then turn on your system press the aux function and you’re off to the beauty of vinyl

Hello Renauxa. You absolutely need a so-called RIAA input (phono input). These inputs are 6 times more amplified than aux, CD, tape, and others. Otherwise, there is the solution of the mixing desk.

The input sensitivity of a phono auxiliary and a standard input is not the same. You need a small box called a RIAA preamp. You can find it in electronics stores or places like Conrad.
