PC won't start after CPU upgrade

Hello,

I have a Medion PC with an H61H2-LM3 motherboard. I wanted to upgrade from a Celeron G530 to an i3 3240, but the PC won't start once the processor is installed.

I put the old processor back, and the PC starts as before.

Of course, I checked the socket (1155), which is compatible with the i3.

Thank you for your help.

Normally, there shouldn't be any problems. Are you sure you have everything connected properly? Is the P4 power connector plugged in?

      Hi
It's possible that the BIOS version is not up to date for this CPU.
Check the version in CPUZ (motherboard tab)
For the update, check with Medion.
Otherwise, it seems that this board is originally from ECS: https://www.ecs.com.tw/ECSWebSite/Index/EN/Home
But you never know, you should first ask Medion.

I have the H61H2-LM3 version, after extensive research no drivers found.

    Hello
But your Celeron G530 is a 2.4 GHz Sandy Bridge without a graphics chipset, and the i3 is a 3.4 GHz Ivy Bridge with a graphics chipset.
All of this may be incompatible with your motherboard.

It is among the compatible CPUs, with the same version of BIOS as for the Celeron 530.

I'm not sure it's the same BIOS; only the date is provided on the ECS website, and there aren't enough details, including in the zip file (I downloaded it to check).
That's why I would like to see what CPUZ says.

I had looked online before buying the processor. Compatible socket 1155, it should work on all 1155 motherboards, right?

And no, it's not because it's the same socket that the CPU is compatible with the motherboard! There are quite a few factors that cause incompatibility.

No, there are 2 generations of CPUs in socket 1155, and the H61 chipset belongs to the first one.
Tribun may be right, the "L" M3 may not support this CPU:

Install CPUZ and check the version of your BIOS. The date in particular, if it's before the release of the i3 3xxx, that's the issue.

    Source CCM.
    Causes of incompatibility
There are indeed several other factors to consider; obviously, the socket is a necessary condition, but not sufficient.
The FSB is in the same situation, necessary but not sufficient.
So what is needed to ensure that it will work?
It's quite complicated, as other elements come into play for compatibility, primarily the chipset, but also the CPU power stages, mainly the VRM: Voltage Regulator Module.

    These compatibility conditions are multiple:
    1) software: instructions need to be given to the chipset to understand the new processor; the solution is relatively simple, we integrate this into a new BIOS;
    2) hardware: this mainly concerns the CPU's VRM; if the motherboard is not designed to power a new type of CPU, there is nothing to be done, and no solution through a BIOS update, since it's hardware ;)

Since it is quite difficult to know all these factors, it is essential to check the CPU/motherboard compatibility on the motherboard manufacturer's website before making a purchase: they will provide a complete list of compatible processors and which BIOS version is required :)

I just saw someone who managed to put an i7 on this motherboard: http://www.jeuxvideo.com/forums/1-3-11447858-1-0-1-0-vds-ordinateur-gamer-upgrade-recent.htm

This person can say anything, and you can see that even an i3 doesn't work.
      There's only one good link.

So? Do you think it's compatible? I saw that all H61H2- motherboards are compatible with i3 / i5 / i7 of the 3rd generation, even very low-end ones for €30.

      I've already provided the link.
But it's not exactly the same designation, LM3 he has.
It's risky to flash it with this BIOS.

I am going to change the motherboard because this one does not recognize the i3, and the drivers are also nowhere to be found on the internet. Thank you all

If there is any problem, I will let you know

      thank you
