I lost my Mailbox on Mac.

Hello,

I just returned from vacation and I can’t find the Mail icon on the desk of my Mac.
I have reinstalled Mail. I can see the new messages, but in the left column, I no longer have the various folders I had created from the emails received from the beginning. I am worried because being a bit older :) it was my memory aid! Is it possible to retrieve that? Thank you for helping me with easy and clear explanations. Best regards. Grandma

Configuration: Mac OS X Snow Leopard (10.6) / Firefox 25.0

    Good evening,

Look in "user" (the little house) ==> Library ==> Mail and you should find your files by digging around a bit.
Don't throw anything away, avoid making false moves.

One piece of advice, backup important things on an external hard drive, for example, don't trust hardware, it is prone to failure.

    Thank you dede74000,
I have read your message for which I thank you infinitely.
I followed your advice but when I open "mail" I have several "things" and I don't know what to do.
However, yesterday, I thought I restored my mail but when I open certain messages, they are empty. Yesterday, I searched in Finder and put a lot of things on the desktop not knowing what they were for, but I am absolutely in a mess.
I am really worried! What should I do?
What should I back up on my external hard drive?
I am truly grateful for your help.

A big thank you for helping me.
I followed your instructions but when I got to the "mail" folder, I don't know what to do. There are a lot of things whose contents I don't know!
Moreover, yesterday I thought I reinstalled my mail; but today, when I open the emails received yesterday, they are empty!
What should I save on my external hard drive?
I am really very worried! I hope I didn't make any big mistakes.
Yesterday, I rummaged through my trash and put a lot of things back on the desktop; I didn't empty my trash. Maybe I can find my mail there?
Sorry, but I really am a total failure!
    SOS!
    Thank you.

      Hello,

How do you use your external hard drive? If using Time Machine, your backups are done automatically.

What are the "things" placed on the desktop, taken out of the trash?

    Hello,

I do not use TIME MACHINE!

I looked at the "things" on my desktop; I think I recognize what I saved in my emails and stored in the folders on the left side of my mailbox.

When I had Windows, I knew how to perform a restore; is there a way to do it on Mac?

    Thank you for your patience.

      I don’t use Mail myself.

      Have a nice evening.

Thank you very much for your availability.

I quickly opened the two links; I think I'm not out of the woods yet!

As soon as I have some time - this evening - I will try to understand something.
