Canon Pixma MP230 USB Printer... Not Found

Hello everyone,

I just acquired a Canon Pixma MP230 printer.

Supplied without a cable, that's a great start!!!

I bought the cable and still no printer!!!

After checking, I'm sure it's the right cable.

So here’s the problem:

I plug the printer in with the USB cable, and Windows doesn't detect any attached device, strange...

Installing the printer using the CD... "please connect the device"

So the printer works without the computer for making copies, but it is not detected by Windows at all.

I checked my USB connections, everything seems correct.

I've already spent hours on this, I downloaded everything I could, nothing works, Windows does not detect the device connection, while it immediately detects my camera, my phone, and does so on all the USB ports of the PC.

I’m at the point where, if no one can help me, I’ll throw the printer away and buy a new one, not eco-friendly but my patience has its limits!!!

And Canon’s only response is to send the printer back at my expense... long live customer service

Thank you for your help,

Christophe

    Hello toff317,
There's no need to overthink it, it won't move things forward!
Which Windows are we talking about?
Is it 32 or 64 bit?
In the logical order of printer driver installation, the driver is a priority, the USB connection comes afterwards, during the procedure.

Thank you for responding to me.

I have Windows 7 Home Premium, but how can I tell if it's 32 or 64 bit?

Start, type System at the top and then click on the same name in the window that has just opened, under control panel, it is noted on the line System type.

Very well, if there is a version of drivers/software for this printer installed on the PC, it must be eliminated completely, there should be no traces of Canon Pixma MP230 on the PC.
Then clean the registry with Ccleaner that you can find at this LINK, the registry cleaning is HERE.
Disconnect the printer from the PC while leaving it powered on and running, then restart the computer.
At the bottom of this PAGE, click on Accept and Download, save the proposed file, double click on it to start the installation and continue until the procedure is complete.
During the installation, you will be prompted to connect the printer, do it at that moment, or at the end of the procedure, but not before.

It should be noted that since my last attempt to install the printer, I performed a formatting to revert my computer to factory settings.

Anyway, I installed and used CCleaner and cleaned the registry.

I then clicked on the Canon link.

I was asked to plug in the USB cable and wait.

After several minutes, the program informed me that it could not detect any printer and that if a cable was connected, I should disconnect and reconnect it.

    Which I did.

But there is still nothing more, Windows cannot find a printer.

It's surprising, maybe you have a problem with this USB cable for example, right?
Have you tried plugging it into another USB port?
      Is the driver installation correct?
      See you later!

No worries about the driver installation.

I had already managed to install the driver before, I even think I have already installed the one you just gave me.

I wanted to try one last time at home with the help of someone because I believe that there is either a problem with the cable I bought new, or possibly the printer's socket.

I will now ask around to test the printer on another computer or borrow another cable just in case.

In any case, thank you for giving me these few leads, even if it didn’t lead to anything.

I was thinking that since my computer wasn’t responding to the connection of a USB cable, it must be either an issue with it or the printer's socket.

Thanks again, and I will keep you updated through this site if there is any progress.

I was also thinking of suggesting you try it on another computer, but not everyone has a second PC available!!
No problem, I’m sorry I can't help you.
Thank you for passing on the information, it may be useful to someone in your situation.
Wishing you the best of luck moving forward.
      Best regards.
