Hello everyone, I would like to know if my sound card is 5.1 compatible because I want to buy the Logitech 5.1 PC Speaker Kit Z906. I have a HP Pavilion dv7 laptop. With the site Ma-config.com I got the following specifications:

*Motherboard: _Quanta 3639 33.11

*Chipset: _Northbridge: AMD 785G

_Southbridge: AMD SB700

*Graphics Card: _ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4530 Series

*Multimedia Cards: _Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] SBx00 Azalia (Intel HDA)

_Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] RV710/730 HDMI Audio
[Radeon HD 4000 series]

There you go, I searched the web with these informations but no success. I hope you can help me, thank you in advance for your answers.

Logitech Speaker System Z906 should work on this machine; it is compatible with computers, music players, televisions, DVD and Blu-ray players, game consoles, and other audio sources with a digital optical, digital coaxial, RCA, or 3.5 mm audio output.
You may optionally visit the site for further information; it is HERE.
      See you later.

yes but what I want to know is if I plug the kit into my PC will it output 5.1 sound from the speakers? because I think if my sound card doesn't do 5.1, then only stereo sound will come from the speakers.

If your computer supports surround sound, it should work. You always have the option to simulate surround sound, as explained on this LINK.

How can I tell if my computer supports surround sound? I looked in the playback device settings, but it doesn’t indicate anything anywhere.

Maybe in the computer's documentation there should be a chapter dedicated to audio where this should be noted, have you checked?

In the documentation it says it’s possible to connect an external audio device via HDMI, so I think my computer does surround sound.

I think so too, but before you decide to invest, you can question the seller and give him the exact references of your computer, insisting that he tell you whether it will work on your machine.
