My niece took my mother's PC because she forgot the Windows 8 logon password. She provided me with a list of passwords she remembers. Nothing works. We attempted to reset the password and we get a message asking for a USB key. We have the password hint that matches the password list provided. I pressed Shift+Restart to get the command prompt, but it still asks for the password. I hope I’m clear in my post. Thank you in advance for your help. If I can avoid using the hard drive as an external drive to recover photos and reinstall Windows 8 or perhaps Windows 10, that would be great.

    Hello,

I don’t see how you could avoid data being retrieved by a box or a special USB cable, because as a former CCM member, you have surely had the chance to read the responses almost daily to this kind of request and know that you will not obtain a method to bypass protections

Besides the method you know, even if constrained, the only legal recommendation is a factory reset (data loss)
