Hello,
I got a Xonar 5.1 to address an Onboard Sound problem...
I installed a GeForce 480 GTX and since then my Onboard sound is dead... I searched a bit for a solution and most of the time people talk about installing a PCI sound card or other to get sound again... not wanting to waste too much time, I’m going to buy a sound card... an Asus Xonar DG 5.1 PCI.
I install it, go into the BIOS to disable the Onboard sound and reboot to Win7...
Win 7 sees it as "Multimedia Audio Controller"... never trusting the installation CD, I go to Asus' site to look for the latest driver for the Xonar under Win7 64-bit... I start the installation and a pretty Pop-up appears... "Please Plug In Xonar DG Device"... After several uninstall/reinstall attempts... I uninstall all audio drivers present and start again... always the same message keeps coming back... I don’t know what to do... do you have any ideas??
Here is my System Configuration...
Motherboard Asus M4A87TD/USB3
Processor AMD Phenom II X6 Black Edition 1090T
RAM 8 Gigs Kingston HyperX DDR3-1333 (667 MHz)
Hard Drive Seagate 500 gigs SATA
Video Card GeForce GTX 480
Sound Card Asus Xonar DG 5.1 PCI (if it can finally work... lol)
PSU Thermaltake 750watts
All under Windows 7 Pro 64-bit
Thank you in advance for your ideas and suggestions!

Hello,
---> Download and install 7-Zip:
https://www.commentcamarche.net/telecharger/utilitaires/2197-7-zip/
---> Download this driver:
http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/Audio_Card/Xonar_DG/DG_7_0_8_1821_Win7_WHQL.rar
---> Right-click the file "DG_7_0_8_1821_Win7_WHQL", choose "7-Zip" then "Extract to "DG_7_0_8_1821_Win7_WHQL\". You will obtain a folder named "DG_7_0_8_1821_Win7_WHQL".
---> Open Device Manager.
---> Right-click on "Multimedia Audio Controller" and choose "Update driver...".
---> Choose "Browse my computer for driver software".
---> Click "Browse" and select the folder "driver" located in DG_7_0_8_1821_Win7_WHQL > PCI-DG-130418-7.0.8.1821(win7-QR) > WIN7 > SoftwareDriver.
---> Click "Next".-
Thanks for the tip but it doesn’t work... at the last step when I click Next... Win7 says it can’t find any driver and therefore can’t install the card! I also checked the "Product ID" in Device Manager, Multimedia Audio Controller, Properties, Details and Hardware ID... but everything is OK there too... it’s the correct ID shown... PCI\VEN_13F6&DEV_8788&SUBSYS_85211043&REV_00 : OK (Xonar DG) So it isn’t EEPROM Failure... ( https://www.alsa-project.org/main/index.php/Xonar_EEPROM_Failure ) Any other ideas, suggestions? Thanks again in advance!

Destrio5, Thank you!! :)
You opened my eyes!! lolll
I was looking so hard to find a BIG problem that I missed the small problem...
So I’ll summarize for those who might encounter this in the future...
The Product ID and the Hardware ID of my card were different, so they were not recognized by Win7 nor by the installation CD....
Before Destrio5's second remark, when I looked at the Hardware ID I saw it the wrong way... I took the last 4 digits as if they were supposed to change from one card model to another, but I was wrong...
PCI\VEN_13F6&DEV_8788&SUBSYS_85211043&REV_00
The 1043 does not change from one model to another but the digits before, Yes.
That’s what misled me.
So I followed the steps as indicated here...
https://www.alsa-project.org/main/index.php/Xonar_EEPROM_Failure
I downloaded and burned the iso to a CD
Booted from the CD and followed the simple steps by selecting my Xonar DG model.
Then I restarted Windows, installed the Drivers with the Asus CD and voila, the sound came back!
So, a big thanks Destrio5, if you hadn't pointed out the DG, I would have returned a functional card to the store and wasted my time unnecessarily!
Thank you!!
