Photo rotation when copying to USB drive

Hello,

I’m encountering a rather unusual problem.
When I copy folders of photos to my USB stick or external hard drive via a USB port, the photos that are in "portrait" mode are automatically rotated to "landscape" mode (90° rotation). This phenomenon isn’t visible on my PC but appears on all the other PCs I use to review the contents of the USB stick.
When I plug the stick back into my PC, I see the photos in "portrait" mode as they originally were.

I’m using Windows 8, an Asus N550JV PC, and the problem has recently arisen after acquiring this new PC.

Notes:
- The problem occurs on both a 1 TB NTFS external hard drive and a FAT USB stick.
- The problem appears on all USB ports of the PC, without distinction.

I thought it might be an error during the copying process that causes the photo properties to be lost. However, I haven't found any drivers or fixes to update: Windows? USB port? ..

Thank you in advance for your help,

Adrien

Configuration: Windows 8 / Firefox 24.0

    Good evening,
I'm following up on the message after several tests:
The issue has only appeared since I've been using my new Windows 8 PC. I've tried copying the photos from:
    - a USB cable connected to the camera
    - an external SD card reader
    - the built-in SD card reader

In any case, the problem remains the same.

--> I think it's Windows 8 that defaults to displaying images in "portrait" mode, but this is not saved in the image properties.
So, when copied and read on another PC, they appear in portrait mode.
In short, once again, it's a Windows problem..
