Hello,
The Epson Stylus DX 4400 printer is indicating that it is out of ink, even though I just installed a new cartridge.
It is stuck on the low ink alert and I can't do anything.
Configuration: Windows XP / Firefox 23.0
Have a good evening and see you soon, I hope.

Good evening,
Sometimes, rarely in fact, when two cartridges are almost empty both, the printer indicates that one cartridge is empty (only one, instead of the two that are empty).
And once we've changed the empty cartridge, it errors and indicates that the cartridge we just changed is empty. Even though in reality, the message concerns the second empty cartridge... It may also indicate both cartridges as empty. This doesn't make sense anyway, as it states that the one we just changed is empty...
ANYWAY.
It's a firmware bug affecting practically all EPSONs... The first time it happened to me, I didn't understand right away.
Turn off the printer. Turn it back on. It then indicates that one cartridge is empty, but it's obviously no longer the one we just changed.
Change the second cartridge and it works again.
That's the procedure, unless the problem comes from elsewhere.... but we'll see that later.
Best regards.

Hi,
SSC Service Utility, this old piece of junk, has been replaced by the Adjustment Program made by OrthoTamine and the paid software (except in diagnostic mode) WICRESET.
I easily found the Adjustment Program by searching on Google, it's free and usable for life.
WICReset downloadable at this address: https://www.2manuals.com/ is free in diagnostic mode.
Both software will allow you to know what's going on. I must admit that the Adjustment Program is more complex to use... but it will allow you to reset the "protection" counter (associated with the waste ink tank used during head cleaning) to zero for free. Plus, it’s not too hard to find.
I'd give you the link but my answer would get deleted...
Here's a video where I use both: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fwbq_9DdlfU
Catch you later!

Hi
I wasn't aware of these software programs.
WICReset is paid (18 € per reset, which is still close to half the price of a basic printer!)
Unfortunately, your two software programs only work on Epson.
I'm not sure if a reset is necessary with other brands, but if not, we should quickly boycott Epson.
I have a Brother that completely satisfies me. It's the first one I've had that has never clogged.
We'll see ...

Here’s a screenshot regarding the purchase of the key for WICRESET

$9.99 is about 7.4 EUROS, we're still quite far from the €18 you mentioned, RIGHT?
And why "boycott EPSON quickly" as you say???? WHEN in fact, we can easily fix the problems with printers from this brand.
I would say on the contrary, we should buy EPSON. For the same reasons that Microsoft supported the BLURAY format against other formats: it’s easier to pirate!!!!
Anyway, my friend touroul, your way of presenting things and not checking your information bothers me a lot.
Your way of talking nonsense and this dogmatic, pretentious tone, without nuance also bothers me a lot.
It seems you have all the characteristics of a poor stupid and show-off clone...
Why don’t you go polish your serial number somewhere else???

I will follow your advice, which seems wise to me. I will clean the contacts on the printer side and on the cartridges to establish a connection.
Thank you for your quick and accurate responses.
Thank you very much, I will keep you updated.

I cleaned the 8 contacts but still no result.
I'm going to buy a new cartridge, maybe this one will be good.
If not, I'll resort to the resetter.
Thank you for your dedication.
See you soon.

Thank you for inquiring about the cost of the software,
I don't think it's worth spending money.
And as you said, let's boycott Epson under these conditions.
Thanks again for your dedication.
Best regards .......

Thank you for helping me,
the issue is resolved, it was simply the ink cartridge batch that was faulty.
I had the same issue with the subsequent cartridges.
So, I replaced them all.
Thanks again for sharing your expertise with me.

I inform you that the problem is resolved.
Indeed, it was due to the ink cartridges that were not reset.
Since then, I had to change a second one for the same reason.
So, I changed them all and it works.
Thank you for allowing me to benefit from your experience.

Hello,
I didn't really have a reason to mention it before, but since you might ruin yourself on cartridges, that changes things.
I need to let you know that there are genuine refillable cartridges that are perfectly compatible with your printer model (if it doesn't accept them the first time, we can remove them all and put them back in; it always works).
These refillable cartridges (the real ones: transparent to see the ink level, with a refill cap and chips that reset to "full" automatically) allow for significant savings by refilling the cartridge with ink yourself.
Each refill costs between thirty and fifty CENTS !!!!
It's much more interesting for the XP models from EPSON where the cartridges cost about 12€ each...
These are the refillable cartridges that I've been using for five years without any problems (except at first due to my ignorance: "priming," filling, behavior...).
And when I repaired the small thirty EPSON/BROTHER/CANON printers that I managed to get for cheap because they were broken; I still used these refillable cartridges. I wasn't going to pay 15€ for test/cleaning cartridges anyway!!!!
Currently, I use CISS on my printers....
Like in this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fwbq_9DdlfU
Generally, I don't bother filming everything....
In conclusion, I would say there is material for reflection and research to be done....
Best regards to those who know they don't know everything.

Apply a bit of conductive product (or alcohol) on the cartridge chip to eliminate a false contact.
Do the same on the contacts on the printer side.
Another solution: there's an internal counter in this type of printer.
Once that limit is exceeded, the printer no longer works.
You need to use a resetter, which is paid for your Epson model (check on eBay).
Last solution: you were sold a "refilled" cartridge that hasn't been reset. I've seen that before. Check with your dealer.
Previously, there was SSC Service Utility, a free tool for Windows that could reset cartridges via the PC. But it doesn't work with the DX 4400.
Good evening!
