Hello! I'm trying to print a Word document, and a message appears at the bottom of the screen (a box with blue blocks) saying "Word is preparing the background printing." Everything freezes, and Word ...is not responding anymore. (I didn't specify any background in "Format"). Thanks to anyone who has an idea!!!

I had exactly the same thing! I have a multifunction printer: it's simply the name of the printer checked when starting the print job! (mine was on "fax" instead of "printer". That's all. I hope I could help..)
Hi,
delete the Normal.dot file; it will be recreated the next time Word is launched and the problem should no longer be present.

Good evening,
In the Options of your printer window, you should have a checked box "Print in the background", this box must be unchecked.
