Hello everyone,
I have a small issue with a 1TB WD external hard drive of type 3.5 (USB powered) that is not partitioned. My PC is running Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-bit.
The computer recognizes it as it emits the characteristic little sound when a device is connected and it appears in the eject tool (at the bottom right of my screen) but I cannot access its contents. The disk is also reported to be functioning perfectly in the device properties and the drivers are up to date.
The disk management tool indicates that the disk is unknown, uninitialized... Finally, the disk is spinning perfectly, without any issues...
It’s worth noting that the problem occurred on another PC before mine, then it worked again on my PC yesterday before refusing to cooperate today...
I tried using Recuva and PC Inspector File Recovery but found nothing. Using Test Disk (on a Vista PC) gives me a Read Error message... I haven't gone further to avoid messing things up...
Does anyone have a little solution for me?
Thank you very much everyone.

Hello,
The solution is indeed TestDisk.
The condition is to precisely follow the tutorial to recover the unreadable partition, to rebuild this partition so that the files are readable again by Windows.
This applies in cases where the hard drive shows that the partition is either 'empty' or 'raw'.
NB: Be careful with the multiplication of recovery attempts using different software as this jeopardizes the hypothetical successful outcome of TestDisk recovery operations each time.
Best regards
