slt everyone, I have a problem. I bought a computer with Windows Vista and I would like to remove Internet Explorer 7 to install IE6, but when I try to install IE6, Windows tells me that there is already a newer version. So, does anyone have a solution? I thought about using MS-DOS commands, but I don't remember them ^^ and I don't know if they work under Vista
thanks to all in advance

Absolutely agree, this thread raises a question that quite a few webmasters are asking, namely how to test their site under IE6 while using Vista, which is my case.
So for all those who do not answer this question, please no pointless comments.
YES, I browse using FF, YES, I need IE7, YES, I need IE6, YES, my second PC runs Linux.
Not everything revolves around the Linux/FF versus Microsoft/IE war.
To those who understand.

Everyone is free to use the default browser of their choice.
But,
Sorry to disappoint you, but it's impossible.
Microsoft, under the Vista exploitation, wanted Internet Explorer 7 to be an integral part of the Vista system.
Therefore, it is impossible to uninstall it.
Even through hidden uninstallation programs or updates.
Microsoft has also announced that for future Vistas, Internet Explorer may no longer be an integral part of the system to allow users to choose their own web browsers.
But this is still just talk.
Consequently, if IE 7 is installed on an XP, it can be removed since it is not an integral part of the XP system.
Best regards.

I want to uninstall IE7 on Vista because I can't configure it the way I want. Firefox doesn't suit me. I have other things to do than spend my time learning where all the functions are located. I am used to IE6 which works perfectly for me. I use the internet for work, not for fussing around.
If I can't get rid of IE7, I will get rid of Vista.

Why uninstall IE7? If you don't like it, you can install another browser and leave IE7 aside. Because IE6 is also Microsoft, so it will also be "Windob"...
Use Firefox:

Pfff... This kind of answer that doesn’t address the question at all, in an anarcho anti-Windows spirit (dare I say Kevin?), right after the first post, was to be expected. There are people who need to install IE6 on Vista to test the behavior of web applications in Firefox, IE7, and IE6...
You're right, keep your IE6, it sticks temporary files, cookies, and all the hassle against Firefox, which is faster and doesn’t stick any files anywhere
Well yes, it does stick cookies too. That's the principle of cookies. It would be severely limited without cookies or temporary files.
Firefox looks like IE6 so it’s not too complicated to relearn...
Well, in terms of interface, no, unless you use a Crazy Browser or an Avant Browser that uses the IE engine, in which case tabbed browsing can be much more comfortable than in Firefox (more configurable).
Or maybe you were talking about IE7, but whichever IE it is, the display of web pages is very different, especially in terms of JavaScript handling....

Hello,
Honestly, Internet Explorer and VISTA in general work so catastrophically despite my IBM Thinkpad T60 Vista ready and original version of Vista and Office. A bunch of specific programs and more... I've never seen such a disaster. Worse than all the other versions of Microsoft Windows. Unfortunately, it's not possible to uninstall Internet Explorer. But indeed, Firefox is perfect.
However, there remain a lot of ActiveX or other adware or viruses that pollute the system. Honestly, I really hope LINUX becomes standard in companies because it's really becoming desperate. For my part, I have no choice because the company I work for uses Exchange for emails and does not allow me to install Linux. I CAN'T WAIT FOR THE END OF MICROSOFT!!! Even though I'm not a fan of Mac or Linux and I used to be really into Windows... I can only observe the disaster that is MICROSOFT.
Sorry, but for your Internet Explorer... it's impossible to uninstall....

thank you
but I was wondering if we couldn't eventually replace it with a future version of IE and at that point we wouldn't have IE7 anymore

Hi everyone,
I know I’m a bit late to this discussion but if it can help, here’s what I found:
1) In response to Hardt: "Accessing websites that only work with Internet Explorer 6-- Some websites host pages that are hard coded to read the User Agent string, and only accept the value for Internet Explorer 6. You can temporarily appear to the website that you are using Internet Explorer 6 by using the User Agent Utility. The tool will create an instance of Internet Explorer 7 that emulates Internet Explorer 6. Other instances of Internet Explorer 7 will not be affected." (source: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/previous-versions/aa740486(v=msdn.10)?redirectedfrom=MSDN )
They say that the downloadable 'User Agent string' on Microsoft’s website allows IE7 to emulate IE6.
2) Sorry for not addressing the main question of this discussion because everything I found is nonsense, even on Microsoft’s own site!!!!

Currently, the distribution proportions of internet users by browser are as follows:
-50%: IE7
-30%: IE6
-20%: Firefox
As a web designer, it is therefore essential to be able to test your site on IE6 (when doing your job properly) because JavaScript and CSS are not interpreted the same way across different browsers. If, like me, you have Vista and are struggling since the environment change, I found a temporary solution on Alsacreation (not very reliable but it can help). The software in question does not render pages in exactly the same way as IE6 (portable version) when a site is very complex.
Personally, I continue to juggle between my two environments, VISTA and XP, for my tests. There is nothing like portable browsers for testing (but they don't work either on Vista!) Portable browsers for XP
Ideally, genius programmers would release a pack of portable browsers compatible with Vista...

Use Firefox:

(if someone advises you otherwise, you can...)
And keep IE7 for Windows updates.
There you go.^^
See you later.

Hello,
I’m on Vista and when I click on the IE 7 icon, it shows me an error page; in short, it won’t let me surf the net! However, from Firefox and the others, it works perfectly, but I would like IE to work again. It seems to me that the shortcut in the properties is causing the problem, but I’m not sure... How can I fix it??? Thank you for your response.

Hello,
Good evening Kenny: Well, listen, I've always had Windows XP on my part, I've never known the other versions of Windows or maybe the last moments of Windows 2000 but that's it and I can tell you that for my part, I much prefer Windows Vista to the latter! My current problem with Internet Explorer 7 is that when I double-click the icon, it takes me to google.fr for a while (it shows this name at the top) and after a while, it can't find the site anymore, so it takes me to an error page... (as if I didn't have internet access which is false!). Anyway, I don't know how to debug this because I'd really like IE to work again, even the same with Mozilla Firefox, well Firefox, and yet, I don't have a virus because I have a very good antivirus called Kaspersky Internet Security. And strangely, internet works very well on Avant Browser and Mozilla. It is possible that the path is incorrect but I don't know how to fix the problem....

Hello
Please respond to the basic question but for those with XP, I have an uninstall tutorial at the following address
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927177/en
My problem is that every time I open IE7, it asks me for permission and it constantly opens ad pages, and this is affecting the entire computer.

Well, I need IE6 to make "Microsoft Picture It 7.0" work, and since I have Vista, I automatically got IE7, and it's a hassle...
Well
it's a real problem with Vista
The problem is that as soon as you uninstall IE7, certain internet components and some Microsoft products like Live Messenger for example stop working
So you just have to disable IE7 and enable IE6
there's a certain manipulation to install them together without removing either of them
I'll look for it on my side and you should also try to find it
I read it once in the tips on this same site

Hello,
there is no MS-DOS under Vista, only in windowed mode. You need to download MS-Box for it to work, but there's no point in uninstalling IE7; IE8 is just an update, that's all, and IE6 is outdated. See you!

Hello,
I'm in the same situation, I need to uninstall IE on Vista... I have version 7, but it automatically updates to version 8 if someone else uses my computer and accidentally launches it (my default browser is Firefox). And every time Windows installs new updates...
Before, I would just leave it aside and not use it, that was it. But since version 8 updates by itself, it's a problem because some of my professional software stops working because of that!
I managed to revert to the previous version, but I would like to completely uninstall it because it forces me to manually install Vista updates and always be careful to uncheck everything related to IE updates, otherwise I can't work!
Thanks in advance if you have a solution... =)
