Hello,
I have an Archos AV 500.
My problem:
Sometimes, the Archos is not recognized by the PC and prompts me to format it, regardless of the mode of connection of the device.
HDD/media player.
Have you experienced a similar issue, and especially the solution, other than formatting since I've already lost a lot of data?
Thank you in advance.
Configuration: Windows XP Firefox 2.0.0.3

Hi, last night, my daughter's Archos 105 was not recognized by the PC... which is really bad taste on Christmas Eve! We searched and searched until we were almost giving ourselves a headache, and it seems we've found the solution.

In the Archos setup, you need to select "USB port" instead of "mobile" for it to default to that. This way, the PC detects the Archos like a regular USB stick. To access the content of the Archos, simply open it in "My Computer," and to add mp3 music, just drag and drop it into the "music" folder. And voilà, it works like a charm...

If our solution works for you, please spread the word to all Archos owners (and there are many of them!) who are having trouble connecting their Archos.

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO EVERYONE

Avril and her little girl who is very happy!

Nickel the system setting adjustment ..................... you just have to switch to USB port and not to mobile, that's all .... thank you, Ben

Hello, I have the ARCHOS VISION 1 mp3. At first, it wouldn't charge when I connected it, but now it's the opposite; when I connect it to put music on, it just charges directly, and I tried it on my sister's laptop, and it does the same thing. I don't know what to do anymore, and there is no "USB Port" in the mp3's programs.. Does this mean my mp3 is broken because I can no longer put music on it? Please, I would like to have a response as soon as possible.

Same here, I have the same MP3 as you, and when I saw that it had "connection issues," I was really disappointed. Mine works anyway, but when I try to connect it to put music on it, it charges. And when I want to charge it, it connects. I'm still hanging onto this MP3, but it's really starting to annoy me; we can't charge it or it's difficult to connect!

Well, there you go, I also had the same problem with my 405 30GB. One evening I connect it and nothing...
I test all the ports, still nothing, IT IS NOT DETECTED :s

SOLUTION:
Look on the side of the arcos, there is a small hole (the reset hole). Insert a paperclip into it, remove it, and then turn it on normally; it should work again!!!!

Hello:
try this http://www.archos.com/support/updates.html?country=fr&lang=fr

go to the Archos website/downloads/software and download this:

PMA400 Recovery
26 Jul. 2005

Description: this archive allows you to reinstall the original system.
Installation: connect your PMA to a computer using the provided USB cable. Download and extract the PMA400_Recovery.zip file directly to the root of the PMA. Carefully disconnect it from your computer; the PMA will restart with the original system.

I haven't tried it but maybe it will help you...
good luck.

Hello,
I have an Archos 24c vision, and for some time now it has not been recognized by my computer. I tried another cable, it doesn't change anything; I inserted a paperclip into the "reset" hole but that didn't change anything and it didn't even reset my MP4.
I don't know what to do anymore, could you help me?

Hi, I have exactly the same problem as Charlie, my Archos 605 WiFi is no longer recognized by my PC (unknown device). I can only charge it; this happened overnight, and I can't even finish the installation of the update.

Of course, I no longer have my receipt.

Thank you for your help.

Thank you, it worked for me the modification in the Archos 605 setup so that Windows recognizes the device as a USB storage.

The problem comes from the cable itself at the connection to your Archos; you disassemble the connector and the white wire will be unsoldered, allowing the manufacturer to make a bit more money on after-sales service. Their soldering is very fragile.

Thank you for your help, Sokoban. I had the same problem with my 604. Like you, it was the white wire that was broken on the USB cable on the Archos side. Thankfully, they didn't use a molded plug.

I thank you for this clarification because after changing my PC and still having the same problem, I was desperate to find a solution -_-'. I indeed have two wires, one white and one green, that are unsoldered; I would like to solder them back but I don't know their position. Could you enlighten me because I really want to be able to use my Archos 405 30 GB (I think everyone is annoyed because of this model -_-')
Thank you in advance ...

I just need to find a way to re-solder that damn green wire, or to buy a new cable. Thanks, your comment really helped me, I was able to open it and take a look, when I was about to buy an Archos.

So, following this issue of the Archos not being recognized that I experienced myself...
my Archos gradually stopped being recognized by all my computers (that is to say, 3)...
I simply tried connecting my Archos with the cable from another Archos, and there, it works perfectly.
So the problem comes from neither the computer nor the Archos but simply the connection cable... there you go!
Best regards

Hello,

I purchased my Archos AV 500 yesterday and when I connected it to my computer, a message appeared: "Install the software from a CD" "No, not this time" "Yes, this time only". Since there was no CD, I opted for the first choice, and "the installation encountered a problem, your device may have trouble functioning" was displayed (or something like that ^^).

So I reconnected my Archos and now, there's no automatic installation menu and it isn't even recognized by Windows. I tried connecting it to 2 other PCs and it works very well!

So if anyone knows the answer to my problem, please help me resolve it.

Hello,
I received my ARCHOS 105 this morning and when I plug in the USB cable it says "Hardware Assistant Detected." I wanted to know if it says that when you plug in your USB cable and if you received a CD or a floppy disk?
I look forward to your response.

Have a nice day and thank you in advance.

Not long ago, I found my receipt (lol) so I took it back to them. Three weeks later, Archos sent me a nice letter saying they had received many returns of devices with the same issue and that they were not at fault.

According to them, it's my fault that I received malware through the internet portal we have with the Archos Wi-Fi.

I was so fed up with this crap that I sent it back to them again last Wednesday. Now I'm going to wait for a replacement since Archos doesn't want to refund me because it's been more than 15 days!!!

I'll keep you posted as soon as I receive it.

I had the same problem with my Archos 605 WiFi 4GB. I went to the files icon on my Archos, connected it via USB, and it worked.

In fact, my Archos 605wifi 180GB cable was cut in two by my little sister... So the only option is to buy a new one. The problem is Archos doesn't sell cables separately. I therefore bought a cable for Archos 605 wifi, but not from the brand. It is no longer recognized; the drivers are supposedly not installed. If someone could enlighten me...
Thanks in advance

Hello,
it's nothing simpler, you go into settings and configure it in disk mode, then when you're done, you switch it back to mobile device mode.
That's all in the device settings.

At my place, the "hard drive" mode works great!

Thank you!

I have exactly the same problem with my 605 wifi
it no longer works: it is no longer recognized, no matter the mode, by the PC...
according to my description, the technical service of Archos replied
that it needed to be repaired and that I should contact the seller
except that it was a gift and the person who gave it to me did not keep the receipt...
so the problem is not resolved
more than frustrating
have you found a solution?

I have the same problem as Charlie,
I have an Archos 605 WiFi and a week ago it was working perfectly. For the past two days, I don't know why I can't connect it anywhere.
I tried on 6 different PCs but nothing works! I'm told that a USB device malfunctioned.
I tried changing modes (hard drive mode, mobile device...) but it's still the same problem.

I'm going to try an update but I don't think it will work either.

If anyone has a solution, I'm open to suggestions.

My friends, I advise you to change the cable if the problem persists!
As for me, I tried the cable from my Nokia 5230 (http://n-5230.ru/uploads/posts/2012-01/1327178959_nokia-usb-data-connectivity-cable-driver.jpg) and it works very well!
I hope I could help a little! ^^
