Hello, I have an Archos and when I connect it, I go to My Computer, then Removable Disk, right-click on Properties, and I'm offered to format it. Why? The driver is recognized correctly! I just want to save the files from the Archos to the computer. Thank you in advance... Flo
Configuration: Windows XP Internet Explorer 7.0

    Hello, (I hope you're thinking: oh no, I didn't say hi to you!! or give your version of the OS
    First precautions, NEVER ever open an external storage device by double-clicking on it:
    Viruses and Malware spread this way on your system and that of colleagues (in fact, a double-click on a drive letter triggers auto-play like an installation CD; if there's an auto-executable file at the root of your USB stick or drive, it will run automatically (virus or malware included: a great little executable in case of confirmed infection: google "evosla" download PCA.EXE). Run it to check if there's any infection first, and eliminate it.
    Make it a good habit to display folders in the left column instead, and open folders with a single click on your drive letter or USB unit.

    For your problem, if you're not infected, it means your FAT (File Allocation Table) is truly corrupted;
    when your AV500 is displayed in your explorer, right-click on its icon, and at the bottom of the box click on "Properties", in the new box that opens go to the 2nd tab at the top "Tools" then "Check for errors"; You will be able to check for errors, and especially if it's repairable without having to format everything and lose what you have on the HDD "try adding options if it doesn't simply work, and to repair;

    If nothing seems to solve your file problems and you're sure you need to reformat the hard drive of the AV 500, unplug the USB cable, plug in the power supply of the AV500, then go to the system screen in Settings > System and hold the DOWN function button for three seconds.
    A "Format HD" button will then appear. Use it to format the hard drive of the AV 500.
    Remember, this operation will erase all data on the hard drive of the AV 500!
    Do not format or defragment from your computer on your AV500.

    Good luck, it's a good device and it's worth taking care of it...

    Hello,
    in the Archos settings (toolbox), select the hard drive option;
    when you connect your Archos to your computer, it will be recognized as an external hard drive;
    you will then be able to exchange files as you wish.
    I assume that for now you are doing "file synchronizations", right?
    I hope to help you...

    J'ai un Archos AV500 et quand je veux l'ouvrir dans "Poste de travail", il y a un message qui me dit un truc du genre "répertoire endommagé et illisible", et ça ne s'ouvre pas. Alors je voudrais savoir ce que je pourrais faire ????
    S'il vous plaît!
