For VLC to remember your reading position and resume the video where you left off, you need to change a setting in the player options.

Open VLC

Click on the Tools menu at the top, then Preferences. Stay in the Interface tab.

Look for the line Resume playback.

 Choose the option of your choice from the dropdown menu:

Always: VLC will automatically resume playback where you were.

Ask: VLC will display a message asking whether you want to resume playback.
