How to reduce the size of a PDF on Mac

Hello,

I've searched everywhere but I can't find: how to reduce the size/weight of a PDF?

Indeed, I used PDF Creator to merge several images into a PDF, but it turns out that the size of this merge I've obtained is 5MB while I absolutely need to get the file down to 4MB (it's for online administrative procedures)!

As you might understand, I've searched and searched and still can't find how to do it... So tell me, how does it work?

Configuration: Windows 7 / Firefox 22.0

PDF reduction on Mac

After many attempts to find a method for reducing the size of oversized PDF files, allowing for a truly significant reduction without excessive quality loss, after many disappointments, and through trial and error, I found the following very effective solution:

1. Select the file to reduce
2. Open with: Preview
3. File ? Export
4. Format ? JPEG
5. Choose the settings (quality and resolution). It's up to everyone to experiment with combinations between the two, but in my opinion, priority should be given to resolution (see below for a summary of the results obtained)
6. Save (don't forget to rename the file if necessary)
7. Print ? Save as PDF

And there you go. We started with a PDF file, reduced it to JPEG, and then transformed it back to PDF... A bit twisted, but it works well.

Summary of the results obtained, as an example.
Base file: a text + photos PDF document of 2.9 MB.

Test 5: settings (see point 5.): resolution 300 px, medium quality (between minimum and maximum). Resulting in a document of 807 KB (a reduction of 3.6 times), of very good quality,

Test 6: resolution 300 px, minimum quality. Resulting in a document of 393 KB (reduction of 7.4 times), slightly less good, but with reasonable degradation, still allowing a decent A4 print quality.

I would like to thank you immensely for this PDF file compression method. Thanks to this technique, I was able to reduce the size of my PDF file. Initially 1,200 KB, it has been reduced to 300 KB.
