I would like to get some help with this problem:

I have Windows XP and a small window appears every time saying:

Minimum virtual memory insufficient.

It worries me a bit. So I would like to receive some help to resolve this.

he has 2 possible reasons for this:

either you don't have enough RAM (memory bar).
or you don't have enough space on your hard drive for virtual memory.

- what operating system are you using (win 98, 2000, xp, vista)?
- how much disk space do you have left?
- how much RAM do you have?

reference point:

- Windows XP requires a minimum of 512 MB of RAM.
- Windows Vista requires a minimum of 1 GB of RAM.

Good evening!!!

Thank you for your reply.

For the RAM sticks, I have two, so I have 256 "two of 128".

For the operating system, I have XP.

Regarding the disk space, I don’t know how much I have left, and I don’t know how to check that lol!!!!!

Finally, for the RAM, I also don't know how I could find out how much I have.

I hope to hear from you soon.

Hey!!!! Thank you once again for your reply.

Hi fleurette_21,
I had the same problem as you with my old PC, and it was indeed a virtual memory issue; in fact, I had installed a photo software that required a huge amount of RAM.
Otherwise, to check the available space on your hard drive, go to
-My Computer
-click once on "Local Disk (C:)"
a small window should appear either on the left or below, and there you will see "Free space": __ then "Total space": __

There you go, I hope I helped you
See you later
feel free to ask if you have any other questions.

First of all, it's not left click but right click, and then disk cleanup. There you go, or defragmentation.

Just hover the cursor over the icon (C:) for 1 or 2 seconds to see the free and total space.

I'm also getting the same message, I have Windows XP SP and 512 RAM, the space is 74 GB including 27 GB free, how can I fix this? The PC is very slow!!

virtual memory

By "virtual memory," we mean "storage memory that can function as additional RAM if needed."

In the 1960s, the third generation of computers allowed multiple users to simultaneously make use of a machine, sharing its computing power and memory. However, this led to competition for the computer's resources. To manage this effectively, the virtual memory system was conceived.

The computer's RAM is divided into "pages" of a few kilobytes. A certain number of pages are allocated to each user/program. When a new user requests to use the machine while the RAM is already fully allocated, the virtual memory manager module of the system determines which pages have not been used for the longest time (relative: "long" often means a few seconds) and saves them to disk in an area or file known as the "swap file."

When user A, whose RAM pages have been saved to disk, interacts again with the program he is using (until then, he may have spent a minute or two reading the content of his screen), the system detects a "page fault" and proceeds in the same way as before: it offloads to disk the pages that have not been used for some time and reloads into RAM the pages of user A.

This virtual memory system has been extended to individual personal computers to manage concurrent execution of multiple programs launched simultaneously by the same user on their machine.

When the amount of virtual memory can be configured by the user, it is not advisable to declare more than double the installed RAM capacity, as this leads to increasingly frequent page swaps and ultimately significantly slows down the operation of all active programs.

Hello !!!!

Thank you for getting back to me.

I did what you told me, but I didn't get the free space and total space; however, I got a window that contains:
* dev-cpp
* documents and settings
* my downloads
* windows
* ....etc

However, I did something else, but I can’t remember the procedure; so I found:

- free space = 51.4260
- % free space = 87 %
- file system = ntfs.

There you go, I look forward to hearing from you.

Hi fleurette_21 ^^

just a little correction lol!!!
- re-m44 meant that you should click a SIMPLE click on the Local Disk (C:), whereas it seems you did a double click, unless of course your settings are in (click pointing) mode, but it's not a big deal lol ^^"

Anyway, there's another safe method that's not very complicated:
- double click on My Computer.
- right-click on Local Disk (C:).
- a dropdown menu appears, then you choose Properties.
- a new window opens up and there you can see how much free space you have left!!!

But could you please clarify one thing? [- free space = 51.4260] that you read, is it in MB or GB??? because it's significantly different and could be the cause of the virtual memory message

To exclude any problems, just in case you can get a 512 MB RAM stick and place it in one of the respective slots by removing one 128 MB!!!
Well, this response is a LITTLE long but I’m not an expert either ^^"
I hope I was able to provide the help you needed lol

hello !!!

you are right about the number of clicks on the local disk, but when I did a simple click, nothing appeared lol .

so I followed what you suggested and it works, fortunately .

so I found: used space 6.97 GB
free space 51.6 GB

so, what do you recommend I do to no longer have messages about insufficient virtual memory .

right now I'm doing a disk cleanup lol I'm being told that 1248100 of space has been gained, it's crazy, right hihihihi . but it's not finished yet, it's taking time, I swear!!!

so see you soon .

Hello, so I always have a RAM problem, but is there a way to see if we can add more? Or is there a limit?

ouch ouch !!!!

well, I just finished with the disk cleanup.

I checked the used space: 6.49 GB
the free space: 52.1 GB

plus, I just received the same message as usual.

can someone please help me !!!!!

the taskbar at the bottom where the start menu is changes shape too.

Uh, is this the first time you're doing a disk cleanup?? LOL

Otherwise, well, I suggest you this method that I tried a long time ago and it worked:
1- You're in your office.
2- Right-click on My Computer.
3- In the menu, click on Properties.
4- In the small window that appears, go to Advanced.
5- In Performance, click on Settings.
6- A new window opens, and once again, go to Advanced.
7- There, there's only one button Modify that you need to click on.
8- Yet another new window (LOL): Choose Custom Size and change the initial size (256 by default) and the maximum size (384). The latter you can increase up to 400 or 512 max (at least I think so ^^).

There you go, it's not as complicated as it seems, you can do it without any problem.

A piece of advice: I highly recommend a new 512 MB RAM stick to avoid having this kind of virtual memory message!!!

Good luck ^^

The answer is quite simple. To use Windows XP, a minimum of 512 MB of RAM is required.

Since you only have 256 MB of RAM, the virtual memory must be increased as much as possible to compensate for this shortfall,
which slows down your PC.

You have enough disk space (hard drive), but the latency created by virtual memory leads to: insufficient minimum virtual memory.

Either you need to run a lightweight XP (classic desktop, few startup programs, etc.) and keep the number of open applications low, or you need to add more RAM (memory stick).

Personally, I have 512 MB of DDR1 at 400 MHz (standard) and it's already very insufficient for running XP Pro and several applications (I work with a certain number of open apps), so I plan to add: G.Skill Value DDR 2 x 512 MB PC3200 (CAS 2.5).

Hello everyone, I would first like to say that I've been coming to your site for a while now whenever I have a problem, and generally, by reading the proposed solutions, I manage to get through it. But this time, I have exactly the same problem and despite your solutions, I can't seem to resolve it.
I don't think it's my RAM since I have 1 GB, nor my disk space as I still have 50% free space, which is 91 GB. Otherwise, I'm using Windows XP and I don't think I have many applications running.
On top of that, my computer keeps crashing, requiring a manual restart (by pressing the button ^^). Usually, this happens after a program has crashed, and then everything disappears leaving only my wallpaper Oo.
Following this, I thought about the possibility of a virus infiltrating, but my antivirus hasn't reported anything (I use Securitoo).
There you go, I've tried to explain my problem as best as I could, and now if you could help me, I thank you in advance.

Salut manga!

Thank you very much for replying to me. I downloaded TunesUp but I haven't had the time to use it yet. Additionally, my message with minimal virtual space only appears when I leave my computer on for a few hours, so I'll see if it reappears this weekend since I don't spend much time on the computer during the week. So, I also haven't had the chance to use the trick with explorer.exe, but thank you for the advice. I will post more messages to keep you updated if my problems are resolved. Thanks again for these tips!!!

Hello, I have tried all possible TunesUp applications but unfortunately, the issue seems to persist.
I even ran the TunesUp disk doctor, which lasted nearly 5 hours, but the message still appears after an hour of my computer running, and after that, everything freezes. Even when I execute the explorer.exe application, the icons do come back, but the programs continue to freeze, and it doesn't take long before I have to repeat the operation. So, I'm still forced to restart it to have some peace... for an hour.
Thanks anyway for your advice, Alexads6.

I know how to add RAM. On telecharger.com, they will offer you downloads that will help you get more virtual memory.

Hello everyone

I need some information, I would like to have more memory in my computer. I already have 2 RAM sticks, so 2 GB, but not enough memory to store a lot of things on my computer. What can I do?
