Hello,
For some time now, every time I open a Word file on my Mac, it opens... in the BACKGROUND of the one that is already open, which wasn't the case before. I must have accidentally changed something without realizing it, but I don't know how to fix it, I'm going crazy!
Thank you very much to anyone who can help me...

I see what you mean. I will rephrase my explanation (sorry). Here are the steps:
- Open the first file normally
- Then click on the icon that allows you to open Word on your PC (a shortcut for example)
- After this step, a second window will open separately from the first, and you will have a blank page (normal because you opened Word as if you wanted to create a new document)
At this point, you have 2 windows: the one with your first document and the one with the blank page.
- In the document with the blank page, click on "File" then "Open," and select the second file you wanted to open.
If you did this, you will have 2 windows with your two documents separated from each other.
To summarize, if you want to open a document in a new window, you need to act as if you wanted to create a new Word file.
I hope I have been clearer and answered your question. If that's the case, I encourage you to mark my comment as helpful for other users who may have the same issue ;)

It's perfectly clear, thank you - and it was understandable the first time, too. And it works, indeed.
What surprises me is that before, when I opened a first file and then wanted to open a second one in a new window, I just had to open the folder containing it, double-click on the concerned file, and the latter would logically appear in the foreground (of course, it's the new file I want to read, not the first one!!). Now, when I do that, the second window with the second file appears hidden behind the first one, in the background, who knows why. And I find it annoying to have to go through the path you indicated, which is a bit long, while it worked perfectly well before, by just double-clicking on the second file.
Is there not a checkbox or something in Word's tools to ensure that a newly opened file this way appears logically in the foreground?
In any case, thank you so much for your attention and the time you are dedicating to my problem, it's really nice.

But when I open the first file, Word starts automatically, I don't have a second window.
But maybe I wasn't very clear in my first message; I meant that when I opened Word, if I open a file, then open a second file, the second one opens "behind" the first, it doesn't appear in the foreground, which would make sense since that's the one I want to view now!
It never did this to me before; I don't know why it's been happening for the past two weeks...
