Windows failed to start. A recent software change

Hello,
When I turn on my PC (dell XPS M1530 from 2008), the following message appears:
"Windows failed to start. A recent software change might be the cause of this. To fix the problem:
1. Insert the Windows installation disc and restart your computer.
2. Choose your language settings and click Next.
3. Click on "Repair your computer".
If you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or your computer manufacturer for assistance.
File: \windows\system32\config\system
Status: 0xc00000e9
Info: Windows failed to load because the system registry file is missing or corrupt."
The problem is that I do not have this disc, I am abroad, and I have an assignment to submit for university on this computer.
I have tried to restart in safe mode or with the previous configurations that worked. I checked the BIOS and nothing caught my attention (I am far from being a pro, so I may have missed something).
I therefore turn to you hoping you can help me.
