Hello,
as mentioned in the title, I lost the remote control for my external hard drive, an Emtec K120, I turned the whole house upside down in vain...
I went to the customer service of the store where I bought the device but they told me that EMTEC does not provide a spare remote control :(
I sent an email via the EMTEC website but still no response...
Has anyone had this problem before? How did you resolve it???
Thanks in advance for your help ;-)
Configuration: Windows XP / Chrome 25.0.1364.97

Hello
I've never had this problem, but if Emtec can no longer provide them, then the only solution is a programmable (learning) remote control and to find someone who could have another remote just for the "learning" operation.
Best regards

DESCRIBE your problem in DETAIL, thank you! @Save the planet! It's the only planet where we can find chocolate!-
Thank you for the response. It's not that they can't have more remote controls, it's just that EMTEC didn't manufacture any additional remotes, just an exact number for the hard drives. :/
What do you mean by programmable remote? Is it a universal remote?
And why should I find someone who has a remote to do the "learning" operation? I'm not sure I understood everything, sorry for that. ;-) -
There are two types of universal remotes:
- the "code" ones: which contain a list of devices in memory and you just need to "program" the code for it to send the correct infrared codes.
Advantage: low cost.
Disadvantage: you need to ensure that the one you're looking for is already in the remote or another "approximately compatible" one. Often only the main functions (power on/off, play, stop, numbers, etc.) are present.
- the learning remotes that have a reading eye, which means you can assign any infrared command to any button, as long as you temporarily have the original remote. You simply say "learn for button X", place the other remote in front, and press the correct button.
Advantage: you can do exactly what you want; you're sure of the result.
Disadvantage: you need the original remote at least temporarily. The price is higher.
With Logitech, it works on this principle for a whole range, and you can even program via the internet (plus a series of other things), which increases the chances that the original commands have already been encoded by someone else, but Logitech remotes are not cheap.
Personally, I only have Logitech remotes because of these advantages.
That's more explanation. -
