Wireless automatic configuration

hello

I had a problem this morning: my computer shut down suddenly telling me that there was a critical error. After restarting it and running a scan which detected a Trojan that I removed, I noticed that I could no longer connect to the internet (via Wi-Fi). I checked the connections, and this message is displayed:

"Windows cannot configure this wireless connection, if you allowed another program to manage this wireless connection, use that program, if you want Windows to configure this wireless connection, start the wireless auto-configuration service. For more information, refer to article 871122 of the knowledge base on Microsoft's website."

I followed Jeff's advice (xp windows cannot configure this wireless connection) but I only had access to the wireless auto-configuration through the second run command, and now it tells me "unable to start the wireless auto-configuration service on the local computer. Error 1068: The service or group dependency failed to start."

How can I solve this problem??
Configuration: Windows XP Internet Explorer 6.0

I faced the same problem

I tried to start the "Wireless Auto Configuration" service but I always got error 1068.
In fact, it was the NDIS service that was not started.

To enable the NDIS Service, I edited and modified the registry as follows:

Set the value to 2 at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Ndisuio\Start
then restart your PC.

Then try to activate the "Wireless Auto Configuration" service again

It worked for me.

Good luck :)

Excuse-moi de te déranger, mais par rapport au problème de configuration réseau lié à l'erreur 1068, je n'arrive pas à trouver le service Ndis. Pourrais-tu m'aider ?

For me, the wireless service in Windows just disappeared (in Windows 7). Setting the value to 2 in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Ndisuio\Start brought the wireless network card back to life after a restart.
Thank you

Thank you very much!

Windows XP Home. After installing old ATARI games in DOS mode, unable to start the wireless auto-configuration service.
The procedure worked perfectly.
Well done.

You go to Run from the Start menu (or Windows+R); you type services.msc and there you double-click on Wireless Auto Config, then set the Startup type to Automatic
Then you need to check if your Wi-Fi card driver manages your connection itself; if so, you need to uncheck an option in it, it's up to you to see :)

Thank you for your help, but it doesn't change anything, the startup type was already set to automatic...
And by the way, how do I check if my Wi-Fi card driver manages its own connection?

Hello,
I had the same problem as you and I did what Datadiscount said:
I was faced with the same issue

I tried to start the "Wireless Auto Configuration" service but I always got error 1068.
In fact, it's the NDIS service that wasn't started.

To activate the NDIS Service, I edited and modified the registry as follows:

then restart your PC.

After that, try to activate the "Wireless Auto Configuration" service again.

It worked for me.

But upon restarting my computer, it did the same thing again; it didn't save anything. What can I do?? Thank you for your help.

Well, that's a good question. Could you tell me the chipset or the brand of your Wi-Fi card? Because it's a bit case by case, or brand by brand, if you prefer!

Another piece of information that might help you: since I got blocked from connecting, my antivirus (Avast) is also blocked, and I can't restart it... I will try to reinstall it this afternoon and see what happens.
Otherwise, the rest of the computer seems to be working fine.

Thank you

Hello

I fixed the problem with my antivirus, it's working normally again, but I tried to do a restoration and it was impossible, it didn't succeed... I don't know what to do, I can't find how to recover my normal connection...
Do I need to reinstall my entire computer?

Thank you for your help.

Well, I finally reformatted my PC and it's working again, so the problem has been more or less eliminated.

UP !

Hello,

I have the same problem described here, Avast not working anymore, and the "Wireless Network Configuration" tab has disappeared.

When I got here, my PC had shut down by itself.

I can't start the "Wireless Automatic Configuration" service, error 1068.

And if I change the value at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Ndisuio\Start to '2', it automatically reverts to 4 after restarting.

I hope someone can help me resolve this issue.

Thank you,

For me, I have manipulated the registry... it worked twice but every time I restart the PC, the registry key is affected to 4 again.
In any case, this is due to a virus that directly affects the registry and executes every time the PC starts. I believe we need to investigate this further, eliminate the virus rather than just cleaning up the damage from its launches.

I found the solution:

you need to go into the registry and modify the registry key, but of course don't forget to let Windows handle the wifi connection, let me explain:

my wifi card is an Intel(R) Pro/Wireless 945ABG Network Connection, but my solution should be achievable by everyone:

You simply need to uninstall the software (not the drivers) that manages your wifi card; in my case, it was Intel's software. Then in the device manager, I noticed that in the properties of my wifi card under the advanced tab, that this tab was customized by Intel, so I simply: disabled wireless.
Actually, after uninstalling the Intel software (except for the drivers), Intel still managed my wifi card with other tools other than those I uninstalled.

Then change the value at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Ndisuio\Start to '3' instead of 4.

For my part, after rebooting, the wireless auto-configuration service started automatically.

Hello,

HELP ME !!!!!!

I did exactly what you posted .............. except for:
"I just: disable wireless."

Can you clarify, please, because I can't see where that is ........

Thank you for your clarifications .....

Hello, I have an Acer Aspire 5315 equipped with Vista and I can no longer connect with my Atheros AR5007EG Wireless Network Adapter, and I can no longer start Avast. I have tried installing drivers but I can't find the exact one; I only found drivers for network cards equipped with Atheros chipsets AR5001A, AR5001X, AR5001X+, AR5002G, AR5002X, AR5004G, AR5004X, AR5005G, AR5005GS, AR5006EG, AR5006EGS, AR5006EX, AR5006EXS, AR5006G, AR5006GS, AR5006X, or AR5006XS. However, I have the AR5007EG chipset.
Could you please help me find this driver?

For your information, "Bagle" type viruses (which are difficult to remove) modify HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Ndisuio\Start and thus prevent the use of wifi.

Maybe other viruses do the same.

Indeed, I had the problem of automatic wireless configuration described above after my PC was infected by a "Bagle" type virus (eliminated thanks to ELIBAGLA)... and I only managed to get out of it by modifying the registry as indicated by datadiscount (thanks to him)
so be sure to eliminate the Bagle first.

Hello, I am on Windows XP and I absolutely do not understand where I should modify what you are talking about or where I should read:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Ndisuio\Start to change '4' to '3'. ???????
Could you clarify that for me, please!!!

VHSeifer > anthony250

Sure, thanks!

For my part, replacing '4' with '2' solved my problem! The Windows Wi-Fi management service wouldn’t start anymore...

So to answer you, Anthony:

Just:

1) Go to the Start menu => Run
2) Type: regedit
3) Navigate the tree with the correct path mentioned above.
4) Once at 'Ndisuio', click on it and look to the right for the 'Start' line
5) Replace '4' with '2'
6) Restart...

For me, these manipulations worked and the configuration service (since it is set to automatic by default) started correctly during Windows startup.

Good evening and thanks again for the tip!

Yes, thank you, but for me, when I restart my computer again after the time it worked, the data goes back to 4?
Does anyone have a solution? I want it to remain saved and not have to repeat the operation every 5 minutes.

Once the SP3 of XP is installed, no more problems of this kind, everything is back in order.
