Is a laptop without a hard drive supposed to power on?

Hello,

I would like to know if a laptop without a hard drive is supposed to turn on - at least the screen.

When I try to turn on my PC, the "power" light comes on and it makes startup noises, but I see nothing on the screen. It worked 3-4 times after being put in the freezer (a trick that is effective on hard drives, I know, but also on other components?).

Do you think I should try replacing the hard drive (and buy a new one) or just replace the PC altogether?

It’s a Dell Inspiron 1570 that's 2 years old.

Thank you in advance.

If the screen shows nothing in all cases, the hard drive is not the issue. It’s more likely that the laptop has a problem, and I don't see why you're focusing on the hard drive!

My diagnosis would be: Laptop dead (motherboard origin)
and avoid the freezer as it also damages electronics
