Ludo.
Configuration: Windows XP Internet Explorer 6.0

Hello everyone, here is a simple solution so you don’t have to search for complicated software to merge multiple (*.VOB) files. I created my own software ;)
It’s very simple: you can download it at the following address: http://dl.free.fr/getfile.pl?file=/Jlzpc3Fs. Then, place it in a folder with the video files in (*.VOB) format.
Run my program, and it will ask you if you really want to merge the files in the folder. Respond with y or n and let my program do its job! (It is very powerful; on a PC with 2.3 GHz and 4 GB RAM, it takes less than 5 minutes.) The result of the merged videos will be in the same folder.
I hope this will be helpful for you...

dacdac: I am experimenting with your little software: it seems to be awesome!
To all the conversion newbies (of which I am one), dac dac seems to have given us a very nice gift: congratulations again, dac dac!

adonfdslahoule: thank you, I am currently developing another software to merge all video formats, so once it's finished, I'll upload it online and send you the link ;)
      See you later!

Here is the version 2.0 of my software, I have fixed some bugs and I have also added video formats:
      - mpg; mp4; mpeg1,2,3,4; mov; avi; vivo; Xvid; VOB that you can easily paste!

I have a small issue with version 2.0 dacdac. At the end of the "grouping," it gives me an error message "windows cannot find 'vbs.vbs'.... Is this normal? Because the final file is unreadable
And for the first molding, if I changed the extension from vob to mpg as indicated, it didn't work, whereas it works perfectly well if we leave it as vob.

Olivier, thank you for pointing out the issues with my software, as they allow me to improve it.
Regarding the error message "Windows cannot find 'vbs.vbs,'" don't worry, it's not serious; it's just a programming error. I apologize for that.
As for the rest, I will study that in depth.
I plan to make the corrected version available in the following hours.

You must first download (néodivx 2009) which will convert your DVD format to either divx or xvid format of 700MB on your PC; it’s very simple.

The best and easiest way to combine *.vob files is the software "filemerger".

      Good evening,

Thank you very much, it’s really nice of you to have given me this solution. I just used the file merger and it’s simply great. Another question, hoping you will provide me with the solution once again: I would now like to convert this vob file to avi:
      - Is it a good idea? Wouldn’t I lose quality?
      - If I leave it in vob format and burn it onto a DVD, will I be able to play it on a standalone player?

      Thank you in advance

      Best regards

You have a choice of DVD encoders -> DivX here: https://framalibre.org

Surely there's one that suits you, and it's free!

Good evening Gryzzly, thank you but I think your link won't be useful to me because I have everything I need to convert. I'm just looking for a program or a way to join several .vob files into one single file so that I can convert it to AVI. Thank you very much for your help anyway. Ludo.

All converters allow you to associate multiple VOBs. You just need to select all the ones you want to put on the CD!

Thank you, Gryzzly, for your help. I found earlier while searching (I’m new to conversion programs) that I’m using Auto Guardian Knot 2.40, and I find it really good. As I speak to you, it’s currently converting a movie to .avi on a single CD. A thousand thanks to you, and I hope to see you soon on HOW IT WORKS!!!!! THE NO. 1 FORUM!!!!!!!!!! Ludo

    Hello Ludo,

once your VOB files are encoded to AVI (or another MPEG), can you still enjoy 5.1 sound?
I just downloaded your software and I'm getting started!!
I'll keep you updated on the result

    Hello everyone,
I would like to know how you select multiple vob files, I can only take one from my VIDEO_TS, sorry if I'm clueless, but it's the first time I want to convert DVD files to AVI, so please be indulgent with the clueless :)
Or is there a tutorial in French for Gordian Knot 2.40 that I could use without bothering you too much :).
When you write explanations about software, could you be more explicit and do it step by step because there are always dumber people than you :). (ME) :)
For you, it may come naturally, but for clueless beginners, we understand nothing at all, and it would be very nice of you to help us out :)
Thank you all for your real help.

    Hello,

I have the same problem and I was about to download Auto Gordian Knot, but I see that it is not intended for Vista... only for Windows 98, 2000, Me, and XP...

Is there a risk if I download and install it anyway??

    Thank you in advance.

    Hello,
the risk is simply that it might not work. It's worth a try.

    Hello,
I recorded a part of a DVD with DVD Shrink and it saved it with 5 files: VIDEO_TS in IFO, VIDEO_TS.BUP, VTS_01_0 in IFO, VTS_01_01.BUP, and VTS_01_0 in VOB. I would like to know how to convert all of this to AVI to put it on my MP4 player! Why do I have so many files? I have Auto Gordian Knot 2.40 as software.
    Thank you in advance!

All files are important and should be in the same folder: this folder serves as the basis for the conversion.

    - Convert it to .ISO.
    - Once converted, download Deep Burner.
    - Install Deep Burner.
    - Once installed, burn the ISO, open the file, and start the burning process. That's it.

Hello alphamaestro, I have understood your message but I found a simple solution. I just need to select all the .vob files I have and convert them into a single .avi file that fits on a traditional 700MB CD without compromising image quality. For this, I use Auto Gordian Knot 2.40, which you can find here https://www.clubic.com/telecharger-fiche18534-auto-gordian-knot.html. I remain at your disposal if you need anything, as well as everyone who reads this message. Hello to you all. Ludo_84.

      Hi everyone^^

I tried Auto-guardian but it apparently only takes one .vob file
I ripped a DVD from my living room to put it on my iPod with DVD Shrink, but it created 12 or 13 .vob files and I would like to combine the 12 files into 1 so that I can then convert it with Videora iPod Converter.
Does anyone have a solution please?

(P.S.: I'm sure Auto-guardian can do it, but I think I'm not skilled XD)

Hi Julien, to combine all your .vob files into one with Auto Gordian Knot, just put them all in the conversion list and select them all at the same time so they’ll all be in the same .avi file. However, don’t forget to select in the left column that you want one single CD (700 MB); otherwise, you’ll end up with a file on 2 CDs (700 MB x 2). Give that a try and let me know how it goes. A++++++. Ludo_84

My solution is to convert VOB files to AVI format, and then join the AVI files together using VIRTUALDUB...
      It's something I've never done

But, if you find a way to combine all the VOB files, please let me know.

The solution for Mac: drag the files to the desktop, then drag them into iMovie HD to create a movie; save (share with QuickTime) the video file will be in .mov (H264) remember to set the audio to AAC for multimedia.
    A bit long but effective.
