Good evening,
I have a Packard Bell, originally running Windows 7. After a major computer crash, I received the error message "Boot MGR is missing." Not knowing what to do, I was able to recover my personal data from my hard drive to an external hard drive using another computer. I then reinstalled Windows 7 via a CD, without formatting the computer. The installation was successful, but two problems arose:
- the display resolution has changed: larger fonts, larger icons,... A small problem compared to the next one....
- I can no longer connect to the internet.... and that is more serious!!!! :-)
Can you please help me...
Thank you in advance,
vanessa

Great!!!
It is indeed an EasyNote LM98-GU-600FR.
Do you need the serial number or is this sufficient for you????

Thank you very much!!! Because everything is working perfectly again!!!!
However, I am very curious and I still have two last questions:
- when we do a complete installation of Windows on a computer, is it necessary to format the hard drive? If yes, how do we do it???
- my second computer had the same problem as the first. However, during the reinstallation of Windows 7, I did not have the graphics card and network card issues. How is it that for one computer, the reinstallation preserved everything and not for the second one????
Thank you very much for your help.

Hello,
@Mair: what exactly do you want to know about the PC and network and graphics cards????
You probably guess the question that will follow: where can I find the information you need?????
Thank you very much!!
@Miura: no, I don’t have a yellow exclamation point, but in the "Details" tab of the "Network Controller" menu, nothing is displayed....

Hi,
When you go to the Device Manager, do you have any Unknown Devices marked with yellow exclamation points?
If so, display the properties of the affected devices, go to the Details tab, show the identification numbers, copy them and post them here...
The identification numbers are presented in this form:
PCI\VEN_AB12&DEV_34CD
or also
USB\VID_01FE&PID_02CD

Good evening,
When I go to the "Network Controller" menu, I have 3 tabs: General, Drivers, and Details.
In the "Details" tab, I have nothing.
In the "General" tab, it says:
- Device type: No device
- Manufacturer: unknown
- Location: PCI Bus 4, device 0
And finally, in the "Driver" tab, it shows the message "No driver file is needed or has been loaded for this device."
Not being a computer expert, I admit that I don't understand anything anymore....
Do you have any idea please????

Thank you in advance,
Here you just described the case I suspected (the absence of drivers for your graphics and network cards). Let me explain what I'm talking about:
A driver is the utility that allows your operating system, in your case Win7, to communicate with the electronic component (graphics card, network card, sound card, etc.). That's basically the concept; you don't need to know more.
So, to resolve your issue with you, you can start by giving me the details of your computer so I can indicate precisely how to remedy the problem.

Where do you find your "Network Controller" menu?
What we want is for you to tell us what is in the Device Manager like in this example:
http://servimg.com/index.php?noimg=1&lang=en&k=136
I don't know where you get your information, but as you can see, there is no "Network Controller" menu.

Sure, that's fine... and I'm sorry, this is all very new to me.
The computer is a Packard Bell laptop, model MS2290.
Regarding the graphics card, it is a standard VGA graphics card (no specific name). The hardware identification number I have noted is:
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_0046&SUBSYS_03791025&REV_18
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_0046&SUBSYS_03791025
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_0046&CC_030000
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_0046&CC_0300
As for the network card, it is a "Conceptronic 54Mbits/s USB Adapter." The hardware identification number I have noted is:
PCI\VEN_168C&DEV_002E&SUBSYS_E034105B&REV_01
PCI\VEN_168C&DEV_002E&SUBSYS_E034105B

For the components, I found their identifications
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_0046
Vendor ID = 8086h
Device ID = 0x0046
Chip Description = Intel Graphics Media Accelerator HD
Chip Number = Intel Graphics Media Accelerator HD

Chip Number = AR9285
Chip Description = Atheros ar9285 PCI Capabilities: Offset ID Description
I am looking for the corresponding drivers.
Regarding your Packard Bell (MS2290), can you provide more details?
It is an EasyNote LM, but which one? I find several at PB
LM81, LM82, LM83, LM85, LM86, LM87, LM94, LM98
or if you have the serial number....

For the Atheros AR9285 Wifi, try this driver
https://www.touslesdrivers.com/index.php?v_page=23&v_code=35653
for the GMA, try this driver:

Thank you very much for the drivers. To avoid making a mistake, I would like to ask you if it is enough to just install the executable and my problem should be resolved or if I need to do anything else after executing the drivers????
Thank you,
Thank you,
Indeed, you just need to run the executable to install your drivers.
However, some executables only unpack the actual installation program, in which case you need to go to the folder where the unpacking took place and run the SETUP.EXE file.
Keep me updated on how it goes...

Hello,
I see that you have been helped to overcome your problem, happy for you!!
As for your two questions, I will try to be as clear as possible.
- Well, to say that formatting the hard drive is necessary, you need to know the purpose of the installation because sometimes we want to have a new version of Windows while keeping the old one to have a choice of operating system; in this case, formatting is not necessary. Otherwise, regarding your question, if needed, you can format the disk during installation in the menu presented by your Windows installation CD.
- For your second question, I will answer based on my understanding that some components can be recognized on certain systems, but it doesn’t always happen. By the way, I would recommend a very useful software called nLite, where you can add all your drivers as components of your Windows version so that each time you reinstall, you will find your drivers already present on your system without having to search for them.
I hope I have answered you; otherwise, you can always ask your questions ^^
Here is the link for the nLite software:

What is well conceived is clearly stated, and words come easily. But on the table, we will sort.

Just a small correction to what MAIR said
nLite is designed for XP. For Vista and Seven, you need vLite.
Another possible solution for reinstallation, instead of spending a long time reinstalling Windows, it's better to create a system image when it has just been installed and is working properly. For that, there is a very good tool, it is ACRONIS TRUE IMAGE
Regarding formatting the hard drive, unless you have files to save that haven't been backed up, of course you won't format. But for a clean installation without conflicts or junk, I advise you to format your drive.
You should also think about making regular backups on several different media because whatever the storage medium, NONE is 100% reliable. It's not when you've lost your wedding photos or those of the little one that you should worry.... If you only have one hard drive, make 2 partitions (C and D). For the system, a size of 80GB is more than sufficient; you can use the rest for storage and managing virtual memory, the ideal being to have 2 drives or, as is increasingly common, an SSD and a hard drive.

Hi, I have exactly the same problem as Vanessdu33,
I haven't had internet on my Packard Bell Easynote since I reinstalled Windows 7 from a CD.
I'm not very good with computers and I'm afraid of messing things up :3
In the Device Manager, I have drivers with exclamation points in front (SM Bus Controller, ....)
My graphics card is a standard VGA graphics card (no specific name). In the hardware identification number, I have noted:
-PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_1140&SUBSYS_064A1025&REV_A1

-PCI\VEN_14E4&DEV_4727&CC_028000
-PCI\VEN_14E4&DEV_4727&CC_0280
And in the Internet controller there is:

Sonickx7,
As you can see, you haven't received a response to your request because it's better to create your own topic rather than hijacking someone else's.
For driver searches, use the PCIDATABASE site which provides quite a bit of information.
If needed, copy the first line and search for it on Google.
For your graphics card, 10DE corresponds to nVidia and 1140 to a Geforce 710M. You can find the latest version on the nVidia website.
For network and Ethernet controllers (and not internet... lol!!!)
14E4 corresponds to Broadcom Corporation.
4727 corresponds to Broadcom 440x 10/100 Integrated Controller.
16B5 corresponds to Broadcom NetLink Gigabit Ethernet.
