Hello ;

If you have (and only if) the installation CD for Microsoft MsMoney, I recommend doing this
1-Make a backup of your compatibility on a removable medium (USB flash drive - CD/RW or External HDD)
2-Uninstall MsMoney
3-Restart the machine
4-Reinstall MsMoney and at the same time, a patch update for MsMoney available HERE >> Follow the instructions for installation
5-Restart MsMoney from the backup you just made

There may be a file or something else that is damaged in your current installation

Thank you very much for taking my request into account. Before doing what you’re asking me, I have one clarification to make. On MsMoney, I have 2 completely separate accounts, and this problem is only occurring with one of the accounts. If I do a direct update, is it possible? The problem also exists on my laptop.

Hello;

When you write 2 separate accounts: Does it mean 2 different banks? And the same mistakes on these 2 accounts?
Best regards

No, that means my personal accounts and the accounts of a small family association. So completely separate.

If I understand correctly (excuse me), your personal account and the association's account are separate (which is normal), but are they with the same bank, and is the error occurring with the same bank and on both accounts? Have you modified the settings of either account in the MsMoney tools?
Cheers

You are asking me if the accounts are with the same bank, probably because you think I manage them directly online, but that's not the case. I don't want online management and there is no link between the two accounts. I don't know if I changed one setting (it's been over a year since I've had the issue) in MsMoney tools, which one could I have changed?

I understood, I thought you were using online account updates, but in fact, you do it manually and that's not a bad thing.
I think my first suggestion is the right one >> Make sure to back up all accounts beforehand on a removable storage device as mentioned above

Then perform a clean uninstall of MsMoney using RevoUninstaller >> Restart >> Reinstall MsMoney >> Download and install the MsMoney update patch over the MsMoney you just installed and finally relaunch MsMoney from the previously created backup
Link to the patch here >> Read how to install it first (if issues arise, return to the Forum)

I think you may have corrupted files in your current version (subject to review)

Best regards.

I just reinstalled Money 2005 + the patch and unzipped it as requested. When I try to open the file from the USB key, I get a response that it can't be found or opened... even though I am selecting the file on the USB key.
Since I'm not a specialist, I set it up on my laptop to perform this maneuver (I had the same problem on my laptop, but I use it little for working with Money)

Best regards

Hello ;

Have you tried launching MsMoney directly from the installation shortcut instead of from the USB drive to see if the software starts?
Did you follow the instructions in the link to install the patch over the already installed MsMoney using the installation CD?
When you have the small Money_2005_2107 file on your desktop, you need to unzip it to c:/programs/Microsoft/microsoft MsMoney (or something like that depending on your installation)
See you later
Cheers

A priori, I followed the instructions correctly for the installation. However, Money starts from the shortcut, then it refuses to open, it doesn't find it or can't open it. Even if I click on an old backup, at one point it says the same thing.
About 2 years ago, when I wanted to retrieve a Money file from my PC on my laptop, I encountered the same issue, and at that time, I believe I had to perform an update online, which I did and it worked (I don't remember much!!!!) but what you are having me do also includes an update.
Thank you very much for your advice and for the time you are spending on me, and I hope to resolve my problem with your help.
This laptop I am working on is old, and I just bought a netbook.
I will have to get used to Windows 8 and reinstall Money. I still have a lot to do.
Have a great weekend.
Best regards.

Hello;

You don't specify if MsMoney launches properly when you click on the desktop shortcut: What I mean is, does the MsMoney welcome window open?
Best regards

Yes Money launches when I click on the desktop shortcut.

Hello;

If the software launches without any issues, I think the problem is with the backup that may have encountered an issue.
When you insert your USB stick containing the last backup you made before uninstalling MsMoney, you should see a small window asking you to restore to initiate the backup >> Do you see this message?
See this screenshot
A+ >> Cheers

Hello,
I have the little window, I give it the path to follow, and then a message tells me that it cannot find it or that it cannot open. And yet the backup on the USB drive is the one from my PC.
As I was telling you, I bought a netbook with Windows 8 and the goal is to transfer everything to this netbook. I suggest we continue this conversation in a few days, while I get used to this new laptop and especially the new Windows.
Thank you already for your help, but rest assured I will keep you updated as soon as I do the manipulation to install Money on the other laptop.
At the same place, I suppose?
Best regards
PS I am retired and born in 1941, so I'm not as quick as my grandchildren!

Hello ;

We'll pick up the subject when you're ready >> I'm leaving the message as an alert
Also try to launch MsMoney directly from the shortcut on the desktop, create your checking account (just like the one you used on the old PC), fill it in, edit the transactions you can retrieve with and on the other machine, and enter about ten transactions, make a backup and check if MsMoney works by relaunching from this backup (Especially do not delete the one you have on your USB key)
Best regards

Good evening Marion,

My netbook is functioning. For Money, my problem is the same.
Money opens, but for the backup copy it says “incorrect path. Please use a correct path name.”
I installed the CD and then the update as you indicated.
Do you have another idea?
Best regards

Hello ;

Try to do it like this if the backup is made on a removable drive
Launch MsMoney from the Sample.mny application located in the MsMoney files (C:/Program/Microsoft Money ..) then click on the Open tab at the top and in the window that opens: Search for the path where the backup is located >> See this link for an example while staying on your topic

Thank you for kindly letting us know if your problem is resolved by activating this function in the space provided for that
Best regards and A+

Marion,
I tried the manipulations, but it's not working, I have the same problems as Edwige28. I'm asking you the same question, if I can reach you by phone, it would be clearer. Also, let me know what time I can call you.
Thank you

Hello Marion,

Finally, yesterday I solved the problem of retrieving Money on my Netbook running Windows 8, by making an error during the backup.
Reminder: For Money 2005, I work on my PC and it works. When I close Money, two backups are created on the hard drive, one in .mny and one in .mbf. I also request a backup on a USB drive from time to time, and it is in .mbf. This is where the issue with not retrieving the backup on my Netbook comes from.
Yesterday, I copied the hard drive backup in .mny format to my USB drive and just needed to launch Money directly from this backup.
However, I still cannot open transactions by categories on my association account, while I don’t have this problem on my personal account. (this is my first request for your services).
Have a nice Sunday
Best regards

Hello Anarge;

I "looked at" the topic "Operations by categories" but unfortunately I don't have the answer regarding the topic >> Is it a conflict between Third Parties and Categories?? To be honest, I don't know the solution >> Sorry, but everything else seems fine
Best regards
