MDG Canada: your opinion

Hello everyone!

I’m addressing all Canadians (or others) who have dealt with the company MDG Canada. I would like to know what you thought of it. Many people have told me that they don’t trust them, that it was pretty "crooked"... I would like to get more opinions.

I saw a Horizon dual-core computer 2x2.8 GHz (=5.6 GHz!!!) with 2 GB RAM, a one-terabyte hard drive (= 1000 GB), and a 22" LCD screen for the very low price of $1,199. Plus, an Xbox 360! What more could you ask for?

I’m waiting for your opinions!

Thank you!

I was recently looking for a computer on finance. I had $500 to pay for a new one, but I wanted to finance it. In fact, I wanted to use this method to rebuild my credit. I thought of MDG Computers, which does a lot of advertising. And TV advertising means credibility. Well... I saw on the website a Lenovo G585 that I have now received. My credit score did not allow me to get the best interest rate (29.9%), but that’s okay because I want to repay my balance quickly. Although I have not yet been informed how to do so.

The first problem is that during the financing request process, we are asked for our banking information in advance and we are never informed of the monthly payments, the term, the price of the computer, the cost of financing, or the taxes. We have to wait for approval. And even then.

Then, I learned that my balance to pay, taxes included, was $832, which is nearly $350 more before taxes than the $375 expected for the computer. This $350 is a financing fee. To this balance, my interests will be added. My payments every 2 weeks are about $23 for $46 a month for a basic computer. Very basic. Entry-level. In 12 months, I will have paid $592 and will still have a balance.
Opinion Print
Not to mention that there is no French service at MDG Computers, the contracts and all documentation are written in English, although only the website is in French. You will never be served in French at MDG Computers.

So, in summary, the financing agreement is not detailed and not transparent at all. Moreover, there is no French service. You MUST speak English to transact with them.

And now, I have received the computer. MDG Computers has an authorization on my bank account and I have not been informed of the financing details, although I received some documents in the mdg.ca/online space, to manage my online account which is not very detailed either. I want to receive a statement soon.

I will never buy from MDG Computers again because I don’t know how much my computer will actually cost me, that I could have obtained a similar one for $400 less before the interest to pay, and that I actually had the money to pay for a new one. And I learned by reading through discussion forums that MDG Computers will not report my good payment habits to the credit bureau (Equifax / Transunion) unless I am in default of payment. This endeavor to rebuild my credit was therefore pointless.

Conclusion:

- It’s better to do business with companies referred by people you know;
- It’s better to pay in cash than to finance at 29.9%;
- It’s better to rebuild your credit with a reputable credit card rather than an Ontario company that does not operate in French in Quebec;
- It’s better to inquire by phone before transacting online;
- It’s better to keep the money paid in interest to foreigners in your own pockets!

You have been warned. Should I do business with MDG Computers? Can I trust MDG Computers? Is financing with MDG Computers honest? No.

Well, I don't know why you've had so much bad luck because I was provided with a contract in French, a payment schedule that matched my income, and the possibility to make a larger payment upon request. In any case, I received excellent service.

I bought a laptop 2 years ago. I have been paying $42.00 every 2 weeks since then. In September, I called to find out the balance I had left, and I was told that I still owe $2168 for a computer that originally cost me $1900. I filed a complaint with Consumer Protection, because at this rate, I'll owe them for life. Damn bunch of scammers!!

Do they not gather credit information from agencies every time to restore credit?

Yes, they are really scammers. They don't tell you when your payments will end, you only see the online payments, not the balance or final date. Never do another credit with them!!!!!!

Yes, I also serve in French and contract in French. I even buy without having bad credit because it's easier, and the product arrives at the door.

Too good to be true...
It smells like a scam
Either the configuration is dodgy, the computer on its own would be worth much more than €1200 in today’s market. So for an Xbox 360 that costs quite a bit, I personally don't really believe it... especially if it's online.

Sorry, but it's true, I bought a Toshiba laptop with a 17.5-inch screen, 6 GB of RAM, and a 22-inch LG HD TV and PC as a bonus. I received everything and it cost me 1300 CAD with taxes...

I received it 5 days after the initial payment.

In January 2012, I bought a Toshiba GX171 17.3, Intel Core 7, 8 GB, 1.5TB hard drive and financed it through MDG. I was supposed to get a 26'' Samsung HD TV as a bonus. I only received the laptop but not the TV and there's no way to talk to someone on the phone. They don't return messages either. And ultimately, the laptop is going to cost me an arm and a leg, almost 2.5 times more expensive than on the Toshiba site for exactly the same model. I'm starting to have doubts. Did I get scammed?????????

We pay for the financing service, that's all... that's why we pay more than in a store - we accept the terms of the contract because we don't have the money to pay for the product in cash at an electronics store, it's simple.
I bought a Motorola Xoom tablet, I got a little plasma TV screen, but I paid more than double the current price of the tablet... it didn't make me mad.

I ordered a 47-inch TV and there was a 26-inch TV included as a bonus for $1700. It might be expensive with financing, but for 2 TVs it's not bad. I ordered on May 16 and received both on May 22... I'm very happy with my purchase. "Thank you MDG"

MDG is a Toronto-based company, Arabs can work in these stores just like the French, the Belgians, the Germans, the Brazilians, the Americans, and others...
If there is a scam, it's not the Arab but the owner; however, MDG, like the majority of specialized computer businesses, uses unorthodox means to sell as many computers as possible, so they offer you the lowest prices on the market. Of course, once attracted by this bait that is the price, the configuration often needs to be changed, which drives the price up to the max. Therefore, I would advise that when you obtain a new configuration and a new price, do not buy right away, as you first need to compare the components and their prices.

Look carefully at the warranty for your phone... on their website... you will be surprised!
When your phone arrives via UPS with a manufacturing date older than a year... call Acer to ask if it's still covered... :)

Hello, I did business with MDG and I received my 40-inch TV as well as my phone and I didn't have any trouble. I know that credit plays a part in the price, but it's up to you to do business with them or with someone else. In any case, I am satisfied with what I ordered.

I got tricked by MDG, which announced a computer for $777 but that couldn’t be upgraded, so in the end my computer cost me a total of $1699. Plus, it broke down after 1 year and a week, then the warranty was no longer valid, and they replaced my power supply without my consent, which wasn’t the issue. I had it checked by two competitors, and in the end it was my processor that was failing. So I can tell you that MDG is done for me. My daughters have had a Dell for 8 years, and it still works, so it will probably be my next computer.

It's certain that if you pay for the computer over 3 years, the rate is 29.75% annually, so it adds up quickly.

Here is an example of what it offers.... I just made a request.
And let me tell you that you need to pay quickly to avoid astronomical fees.
It's certain that if you have bad credit like the one shown here (mine!) you will pay dearly for your past shortcomings!

Hello, I did business with them and indeed nothing is stated in the contract that you have to pay for 4 years, so your television that you pay $950 ends up costing you almost $4000 in the end... I made payment stops in my account and they managed, through a loophole by just changing the payment amount, to withdraw money from my account again. I had to close my checking account and open a new one to really have peace... it's really a total scam...

I find it funny that your bank let the payment go through because they changed the amount. In both cases legally, in the first case, just with the company name, the bank should not have processed the payment. In the second instance, the amount credited to an account after two weeks cannot just change like that. You must have a written form authorizing the changes. There's a part missing in your story because you cannot pay for something you haven't received as it violates Canadian law, and you have recourse. So be honest in your statements and guide people the right way.

The service is not disgusting, not capable of helping you when you need it, and yes, they are scammers. But in fact, it's an American company that has a scam office in Ontario and in Montreal. I'm stuck with financing and a computer that doesn't work.

Hello,

Yes, I confirm that this company is a scam; they take advantage of the fact that we have no credit to dangle prices that, after calculations, turn out to be four times more expensive. They play with words; in good Quebecois, they are just a bunch of crooks!

No support, they put a burned DVD of Windows in the box for my computer that died a year and a bit later, for a Toshiba TV. When I tried to validate the warranty, Toshiba informed me that it had been activated six months before I bought my TV!!! They never responded to my emails about this; they just call in English and have employees read a text with very questionable intelligence quotients, and even if you ask for a manager, no one will ever contact you: my opinion is made, don't fall for it; at best, get your money back because it’s incredible how they take advantage of you...

For your bank, it's almost impossible that if you've issued a stop payment, they would still let it go through. No matter the amount, if you notify that XYZ company should not be allowed to process any payments, it's not normal for them to go against that and allow it to go through...

I've already received comments suggesting that the business is run by Arabs who deliberately hold back parts to swap them for better ones and charge you, or even make you pay $1,200 for something worth $1,000 or even less...

They lure us in with such high prices and scam us with foolish tricks like that...

If anyone has experienced this, please let me know, even if the experience was positive.

Thank you.

Hello, I dealt with them and I'm taking them to small claims court because I never received what I ordered, and they withdrew money for a year. I even sent a message asking them to stop the payments from my bank account in November 2011, and I canceled the contract that I never received, yet they continued to try to make withdrawals, which caused me fees for bounced checks and tarnished my name with my bank from November 2011 to May 2012. But I won't let myself be taken advantage of; I will assert my rights soon.

I'm replying to lord.ogre. I don't think they do it on purpose to miss pieces to install new ones. I don't know this store, but when we fill out a credit application, everything starts from there. Credit rates are very high if you don't have good credit, and if it’s low, you will pay much less for your item. The lowest credit rate is 13.99%. If not, you will have a fixed rate of 29.99%. It's very high. Come on, don't question it. It's true that they fleece us, but what can you do? That's how it is.

@dada1971: the payment stop should have been requested from your bank; it would have blocked the withdrawals from MDG even if they tried to come and take it.

Hello.
I bought a smartphone and a smart TV. The smartphone was on sale for $371 and the TV was also on sale for $650. The catch in all this is that after I sent my banking information, they sold me the smartphone for $572 before taxes and the TV for $950 before taxes, so that's pure theft.
I am canceling the authorized payment with my bank and MDG can do whatever they want.

I’m from Saguenay and I just got in touch with them, and I admit I find it very shady, so as I can see, there are more negative reviews than positive ones, so thank you all for your feedback, it gives me the straight answer and my response in the... MDG

Hello, well I wanted to do business for a 42" LG ACL TV
and to my great surprise the interest rate of 9.87% was 59.90% for me
because of my credit. But they advertise a very low rate of 9.87% good
or bad credit.

Well, if I had had good credit, it wouldn't have been with MDG but rather with
Dell, who have the best service in the world.

I wanted to denounce their practices, be careful with MDG.

I'm addressing yoann_tux, it's not a scam at MDG. His phone costs $1,199, which I find to be an acceptable price with the Xbox 360. He could have paid more, but with financing services and a contract, you should expect to pay a higher price, especially if you took a contract, of course. But always look at how your finances are accepted. If you are credited by a form to fill out and you are accepted, and your finances are poorly viewed, the company will accept you but with very high interest rates of 29.99%. That means you'll end up paying a very high price; they will bleed you dry until you suffocate. And the worst part of all this is that they have the right to do it—it's the law they have in their contract. I think this company, MDG, must have gone through the courts to have the rights protected by law.

Could you tell me what software you have on your laptop, for example, how many GB your hard drive has and if you have a dual-core processor? Because if you have a good hard drive, a decent motherboard, and the speed of the computer is 2.4 GHz or more, you must think it's not so bad for $1,200, especially with a free PlayStation 3 included; that's not so expensive.

I did what they told me for the approval of the Xbox 360 Kinect, to make 6 payments of $21.77, and I received the real contract, and the amount is $925 with tax. That's expensive for an Xbox 360 Kinect, I think, and on top of that, nothing tells me that they deducted the 6 payments I've already made. It's ridiculous to pay this price. The worst part is that I lose my $120 that I've already given! And how about you, is it the same thing...?
