How to use the second black cartridge?

Hello,
My Canon Pixma IP4200 printer has 5 cartridges: 3 colors and two black ones.
One is PGBLK and the other is BK. However, it's always the PGBLK that runs out, and I can't print even though the BK has never been used.
Is there a specific setting? What is the purpose of this second cartridge?
Please let me know how to use it.
Configuration: Windows 7 / Chrome 23.0.1271.64
