HELP! Connecting home theater to TV

In general, if you look at the ports on your TV, you will see that some are labeled as in and others as out, meaning some are for inputs and others for outputs. Check the RCA and jack ports to see what you can find and connect that to the TV (or auxiliary) port of your home theater system.

A 3.5mm jack is a simple audio jack (earphones to MP3, ...)
the optical cable, and the optical cable, I'm honestly going to tell you, I think you got fooled, but it may depend on the connector of that cable.

but let's keep it simple, what do the available plugs on your home cinema look like? (or the names of the ones you know)

in any case, take a picture and send it, it will probably help.

- either you find a 3.5mm jack input on your home cinema and plug it in.
- or you find a jack / cinch adapter and plug it in...

Actually, it's not working..

From what I understand, for audio the TV and the home theater system don't have the same input or output... One has an optical output and the other has an RCA input

So, since the cable I bought has two different ends (an optical jack and a jack apparently), I connected the jack to the audio output of the TV (headphone output) and connected the optical end to the home theater system's input... Logically, it should work, but it doesn't..

(With just the HDMI cable, the home theater works but only with DVD player or USB.. so I don't get sound from the TV channels)

Yes, but apparently I don't have the right cables... Since there is only one audio input on the receiver: RCA (x2) and on the TV, there are two audio outputs: Optical socket or headphone jack.

I will try to find a cable with one RCA end and the other either optical or jack.

Otherwise, I really don't see how I could do it.

I went to a cultural space in E.Leclerc (TV section, of course) earlier to ask for advice, and the person told me to buy an optical cable.. So I did, but it doesn't work.. I'm a girl and honestly, I don't understand much about all these cables..

I just connected my livebox decoder via RCA to the HC and it's working.. But, the sound from the Xbox only works with the TV. So the simplest thing (I think) is to do as I said: RCA (HC input) and optical or jack (TV audio output)

I'll try all of that on Monday when the stores are open...

your home only has RCA audio inputs (all other ports are outputs)
your tv only has outputs, either 3.5 (headphone output) and optical digital
if you really want the sound from your tv on the home, you need a 3.5 to RCA cable
(but using the headphone jack isn't great)

otherwise, you can also connect the xbox via RCA to the home
(how many devices are connected to the home? based on the comments, I count two (livebox and xbox)
