Hello,
I have done multiple searches on Google and certain forums, but none of the answers help me.
Here is the situation: I have created a montage of images and videos that lasts about an hour using Windows Live Movie Maker.
The problem is that when I want to save the movie to view it on
Windows Media Player or even burn it to a CD, it displays an error message saying: Your movie cannot be saved, look for missing files or remove unusable elements from your project and try again. Error: 0x87160139.
When I close this error message, small yellow "attention" signs are present in all my videos and photos in the montage (making the montage unreadable: black background).
Knowing that all this content comes from an SD card and some come from an iPhone connected via a USB cable.
I was told that this is the problem, it comes from an SD card and the computer cannot locate them. :(
But during the video recording, my SD card and the cable from my iPhone are always connected, so the videos/photos are still in the same location.
I really don't have the courage to redo the montage that took me more than 3 hours. Do you have a solution to this problem? I would be eternally grateful!
Thank you in advance.

Sorry. I welcome you to the Windows club, it messes up my life, but you need to restart your project or re-point the path of the lost images in WLMM by deleting and then replacing the images.
Sorry for all the trouble you will go through.
P.S.: The problem may come from the iPhone since the iOS system is a closed system, I can't see how to explore it like a USB drive. Next time, copy the files to the computer first before starting your project.
Best regards.

Hello,
It might be a bit late, but you never know.
Actually, since you made your edit, the letter assigned to your removable drive might be different, so Windows Movie Maker is getting confused.
It's the letter that corresponds to the SD card or USB stick that matters.
I encountered more or less the same problem.
Start by identifying the letter that Windows Movie Maker is looking for by double-clicking on the missing files "The file h:\my_videos... is not found".
Here, the letter is H.
Next, you need to change the letter of the removable drives:
right-click on This PC or Computer, then Manage.
Go to Disk Management > Right-click on the problematic USB stick or SD card, then Change Drive Letter and Paths...
From there, click on change and select the appropriate letter (in my example H).
It worked for me.
Good luck.

Good evening maicyb,
I just came across your message because I'm experiencing the same error message issue!
But your message is already 10 years old ^^
I wanted to ask you, if you read this, how can I find out which files are missing please?
I was transferring videos from a Samsung phone to a USB stick but I never changed the letter of my USB stick...
A huge thank you if you can help me :-)
Have a nice day! :)
