Windows Movie Maker on another PC

Hello,

I worked on a project yesterday using Windows Movie Maker.
The music, videos, and the final project are all saved on the same USB drive.

When I open the project on the PC (Vista) I created it on, everything works fine (with the USB drive plugged in, of course). However, I tried to plug the USB into another PC (also Vista), and when I try to open the project, the software opens and states that my project is open BUT the videos and fragmented sounds do not appear!

Specifically, in the bottom bar that shows how the video project is composed, I see white squares with red crosses...

How should I proceed to open the project on another PC? My video is not finished.

Thank you, I hope you understand my problem :D
Configuration: Windows Vista Firefox 3.0.14

The question is old but having not found a clear answer and having found the solution, I'll share it with you. (I'm using Movie Maker 2012).

You just need to copy all the video files and the (or the) Movie Maker projects onto a storage device (USB stick or external hard drive)

Then, either you copy the files onto the new computer, or you leave them on the external hard drive (it's more efficient to copy them to the new computer).

On the new computer, you open the project in Movie Maker.

The structure of the edit is displayed but it can't find the videos. You then need to instruct it to repair the first video sequence. It asks where the file is located and you provide the location (on the new computer or the external drive).
Since it's not dumb, if all the raw files are in the same location, it will find all the links and it will recalculate the low-resolution videos to continue editing.

this may be due to a codec issue that is not installed on this PC!!!

    Hello,
What is a video editing project?
It is only a database. It does not contain any video. It indicates to the computer where a specific file is located, ...
So when changing computers, the new one cannot find the files from the old one. You need to import all these files (the footage, music, ...) into the second one, and specify the new location in Movie Maker.

I thought that taking everything on the USB stick would be enough!

When you say "and specify in Movie Maker the new location," do I have to do them one by one manually or is there something provided for that?

    Thanks for your help anyway.

If that's not the case, by copying/pasting, you put all the files of your video into a single folder. Ideally, you should have an external hard drive that can be used for either computer.
To be able to use your USB stick for the transfer, your videos must be smaller than the capacity of the stick.
