DVD playback issue on SAMSUNG HT-X20

No, I haven't tried cleaning with a cleaning CD for the reading heads. However, is it really a technical reason that I can't read DVDs, knowing that some DVDs work perfectly fine and others do not?

I tried the idea from a user who suggested unplugging the player for about 30 seconds, plugging it back in, turning it on until I saw "NO DISC," pressing ENTER, then pressing the buttons 8, 2, 4, 6, and 9, pressing ENTER again and then the device would turn off and (according to the user) I needed to turn the player back on, turn it off, and turn it back on!!! Result: no change!!

I've been wondering about these CODEC issues?? Is there a need to update the device? If so, how do I do that?

It's done, I just used a cleaning CD but unfortunately, it's still the same thing!!!

I also borrowed a recent DVD from a friend, but nothing works, it's still the same, the player won't cooperate. I tried my DVDs, they're not that old, like Transformers 3, and they work without any problem!!

Is it really necessary to do an update?? And how do you do it online with all this information about downloads whose details we don't know??

I think you should first clean the laser lens of your DVD player! This can be important because the laser lens can get dirty and it may no longer read the DVD properly!!

I just thought of something, is the DVD you bought a Blu-ray DVD or a regular DVD?

It is a standard home cinema DVD player, SAMSUNG HT-X20.

No, this is a standard DVD and not a Blu-ray DVD.

No, not at all, it's not the same cover and it is indeed the standard DVD version, and instead of the blue band at the top of the image, which is characteristic of Blu-ray DVDs, there is a yellow band with "2 DVD EDITION" written on it.

I think that it's the laser lens of your DVD that is dirty, you need to buy a cleaning DVD!!

I have the same problem, my home cinema is a HT-E4550 that I bought only 3 months ago??
For the past few days, it refuses to read all my DVDs, it loads and after a while, it says "error"??
Whereas my standalone recorder, my PC, and my other Sony home cinema read them perfectly??

Okay, starting tomorrow I'll go buy a cleaning CD! Should I get a specific type of cleaning CD?

I just checked something, it turns out that the DVDs I can't read are relatively recent, only the older ones don't have reading problems.

Hi everyone,
1- I'm against cleaning DVDs because they damage more than they clean the lenses.
2- This DVD may be a dual-layer which means your player is unable to read it.
3- To check if your player is functioning properly, you should borrow a very recent DVD (like one a friend has just bought) and try to play it.

4- Don't take everything said on forums at face value. You see all sorts of things and their opposites there (and I speak from experience).

Happiness is the only thing you can give without having it.
