Convert M2TS/M2TS.IDX file to MP4 Solved

Question

Hello,

I currently have the Freebox Revolution, and I record matches and series that air when I'm not there.

However, I would like to watch them on my PC/iPhone. So I went to Shared --> Freebox --> Hard Drive --> Recordings, and there I find ".M2TS" and ".M2TS.IDX" files for each episode (1 episode = 1 .M2TS and 1 .M2TS.IDX)

I assume these are the video and audio files, so I would like to know if there is a software that can convert these two files into a single MP4 file. I have already searched the site, and so far I haven't found anything.

I am on a MAC OS X

Hello bibi 8002,

A few months later, I am answering your question. In fact, in the case of the Freebox, the idx file is not a subtitle file, but an index file. It is this file that allows you, when you reopen the corresponding video in the Freebox, to resume from where you left off. It's an internal format to the FB, and therefore it is not usable (to my knowledge) anywhere else but in the FB.
Additionally, the subtitles, when they exist, are directly in the .m2ts file and VLC can read them (I just checked).

I'm on a MAC, and it seems that Free Video Converter is not available for Mac ...

If I'm wrong, please show me a download link :D.

I would also like to know what to do since I end up with two files and they don't have the same extension, which file should I take, do I need to take both?

I have transferred the file with the .M2TS extension to the Free Video Converter software that you gave me, I see a circle spinning as if it were loading.

Does it automatically convert to MP4? Should I wait after the loading, what should I do?

I don't know much about this software, but I suppose that at the end of the loading something will be asked of you, specifically where you want to save it, I think.

Otherwise, I believe FormatFactory exists on MAC.

For now, it's still loading; it's a 8 GB file originally, so it's normal for it to take time...  But for now, it seems to be working.

You can also use WonTube Free Video Converter, it's a very good and easy-to-use software.

Hi,
I’m taking advantage of your topic to try to solve a problem.
My Freebox gives me, like the others, an MT2S file and an MT2S.idx file.
The first is the video with one or more audio tracks, the second contains the subtitles.
My problem is that I can’t open this idx file anywhere other than on the Freebox (it can’t be opened in VLC). However, I would like to embed them in my video, either before or after converting it to AVI.
Can someone help me and suggest a software?

Thank you for this response.

The first part is good information.
So there is no way to retrieve the subtitle file when converting the video to AVI, for example, if we want to embed it?

As for the second part, I am absolutely certain that no software (VLC, MPC...) can read the subtitles on my end. They seem to be non-existent. We can select the language, but it doesn't see any subtitles available.
It might be a software issue, a Freebox problem, or something else.
The only way to have them is by watching a movie live on VLC, but in direct television mode on the computer (and of course on the Freebox, it works well there).

I found a great conversion software for m1ts files. It's Aiseesoft MTS CONVERTER. It's not free, but you can try it out, and then purchase it: that's what I did!!! And it works!!!! Rick
