Hello,
I need your guidance please!
I want to use Skype but my sound card isn’t detected
I’ve vaguely looked into Sound, Playback, Speakers, Output devices, etc...but I’m a bit lost...
(I have a Dell laptop, I remember a long time ago trying to use Audacity...in vain...also because of a sound card issue.)
Does that ring a bell for you?
A big thank you to those who would like to help.
Configuration: Windows Vista / Internet Explorer 7.0

Destrio, here are the answers:
for the 1st (device manager)
I think the answer is
High Definition Audio Device?
I found this in "Sound, video and game controllers"
But is that the right place I should look? I have a doubt,
I’m starting the test with Aida -
Hi Rodeur and thanks for your quick reply as well.
Yes, no problem listening to music, but on Skype my interlocutor can't hear me, I can hear them but not the other way around...
When I use the test call proposed by Skype, I get the error message "sound card not detected"
A driver issue? -
In my control panel
I go to
Sound
Recording
and there I don’t find a microphone (only Line In which, by the way, is “not connected”) -
Thank you Destrio for your reply, I can only do the requested manipulations tonight,
see you soon, have a good day -
There is a missing driver.
With the AIDA64 report, I could suggest one. -

---> Download and install 7-Zip:
https://www.commentcamarche.net/telecharger/utilitaires/2197-7-zip/
---> Right-click the file "R171786", choose "7-Zip" and then "Extract to 'R171786/'". You will obtain a folder named "R171786".
---> Go to Device Manager.
---> Right-click on "High Definition Audio Device" and choose "Update driver".
---> Choose "Search automatically for updated driver software" and click "Next".
---> Click "Browse" and select the "WDM" folder inside the "R171786" folder.
---> Click "Next" and see if the driver installs. -
Thank you
I’m stopping here...sorry.
I’m not a good student:
I think I’ve downloaded 7 Zip correctly, but then I don’t see where to go to find the R171786 file ... -
I’ve followed everything to the letter... for now it is updating the driver... suspense, suspense... it’s taking quite a long time
-
Ouaaaaaaaaaaah Super !!...
What do you mean?
Can you listen to music or what?
If you can, it also happens to me that Skype makes this kind of anomalies, it even happens that it can’t find my microphone or my speakers anymore although they work perfectly (and they work at the moment of the message!). -
Install this driver:
http://downloads.dell.com/audio/R171786.exe -
I was going to install your driver and I got the "already exists"
do you want to replace it ?
I said yes
Should I continue with the rest of the report or do you have everything you need? -
For the report, no need.
-
Okay Destrio!
So I reinstalled the driver in question, but nothing doing... the problem persists.
This issue of incompatibility with Dell and the sound card for recording—does that not put you on the right track?
I've spent a long time trying to install Audacity, but I could never record myself... as here on Skype, my interlocutor can't hear my voice. -
It’s the name of the pilot I had you try, up to you to know where you downloaded it from.
-
Vista used a generic driver for your sound card, hence the name "High Definition Audio Device."
With the correct driver from Dell (your PC being a Dell), it is recognized properly. -
Hello,
In the Device Manager, under what name does the sound card appear?
And do this:
