Hello everyone
So, I have error 1014, which is the following message at startup of XP Pro: (One of the files containing the system registry data had to be restored using a log or a copy. The restoration was successful.)
I've already done quite a bit of cleaning with CCleaner, jv16, and several others, as well as a reinstall of XP. Nothing works, I still get this message at every startup. Of course, it's not blocking, but I would still like to get rid of it.
Thanks in advance to anyone who knows about this issue.

Hello Kinou75,
** download and install "hijackthis" if you haven't already (click on "install" and not "save"):
http://telechargement.zebulon.fr/160-patch-francais-pour-hijackthis-1991.html
during the installation, remember to check the box "create a shortcut on the desktop" when the window appears.
launch "hijackthis" > "perform a scan and save the log"
at the end a text file opens copy/paste its entire content here.
see you later
--
**(show me the way and I'll find the path by myself.)**

re,
3 things to know:
1°) you don't have a firewall:
install, before anything else, "Kerio" firewall:
http://www.infos-du-net.com/telecharger/Firewall-Kerio-Personal,0301-390.html
-tutorial: to configure and understand the use of Kerio https://kerio.probb.fr/
2°) uninstall "SpywareTerminator," known to be more of a "rogue"
3°) remember, after resolving your issue, to install the SP2 pack:
download the "SP2 pack" here
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=049c9dbe-3b8e-4f30-8245-9e368d3cdb5a&displaylang=en
and install it (if installation issues, try in safe mode)
then do the updates via "Windows update."
remember to integrate it later into a CD with "the SP1 pack"
--
so after installing Kerio and uninstalling Spyware Terminator, do this cleanup (in order and exactly as instructed):
very important note:
1°) what follows should be printed or saved in a text file on the desktop for use in "safe mode" (therefore the forum is inaccessible)
2°) the indicated utilities must be downloaded, installed, and updated in "normal mode" before any use.
3°) start in safe mode and use the utilities in order.
** download and install "CCleaner" if you haven't already: https://www.clubic.com/telecharger-fiche14492-ccleaner.html
tutorial: http://www.tutopat.com/viewtopic.php?t=305
>> attention: During installation, uncheck: "Add Yahoo! Toolbar to Ccleaner"
- open the "prefetch" folder located here: c:\windows\prefetch select all its content and click on "delete...", confirm, and close everything at the end.
launch "ccleaner"
Click on "Options" > "Advanced" and uncheck the box "Erase only...that is 48 hours."
click on "Errors" (on the left) check all boxes (except the last one), then
click on "search for errors" once finished,
click on "repair errors"
when prompted to back up the registry, click "yes"
in the window that appears, click on "fix all errors" then "ok"
repeat until there are no more errors.
in the left column, click on "Cleaner" then "Analyze."
wait for it to finish and click on "Run Cleaner" as many times as necessary.
** download "Spybot" if you haven't already: https://www.clubic.com/telecharger-fiche10965-spybot-search-and-destroy.html
launch it after installation. >
in "language" choose "fr" (if needed)
in "mode" choose "advanced mode"
click on "settings" (on the left) >> "add. modules," check all boxes except the last one (tracker...)
return to the "spybot-S&D" tab (on the left) click on "check all"
when finished delete everything it finds by clicking on "correct..."
(if it asks to restart the PC to finish cleaning, accept and let it do so, (but as soon as it’s done, restart in safe mode and continue the steps)
use the "help" section if necessary
** download "AVG Anti-Spyware" (for WinXP and 2000) if you haven't already:
https://www.avg.com/en-ww/free-antivirus-download
Click on "update" then click on "Analyze" > "Settings" > "How to react"
in the dropdown menu choose "Delete"
at the end: click on "Apply all Actions."
Tutorial here: https://www.malekal.com/tutorial-et-guide-ewido-v4/
And here: https://www.pcparadise.fr (thanks kevlar)
restart in "normal mode"

O12 - Plugin for .spop: C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\Plugins\NPDocBox.dll
restart your PC
** check for any anomalies found and delete the old restore points:
right-click on "My Computer" > "properties" > "system restore" > check the box "disable..." > "apply"
when done, uncheck that same box > "ok"
> close everything and restart your PC.
** upon return, launch "hijackthis" > "perform a scan and save the log"
at the end, a text file opens, copy/paste its complete content here, along with your comments regarding the initial issue.

Thank you very much for your advice, but I won't be able to do it tonight. I will only do it tomorrow morning.
Thanks again!

Hello Lance_yien
I followed your procedure to the letter, or at least as I understood it.
I also installed SP2, and I kept AVG anti-spyware even though it's only active for 30 days, but my problem hasn't gone away.
Well, that's unexpected !!!!! It doesn't keep me up at night, but I would really like to get rid of it.

Hello kinou75,
I would like to have the report requested at the <3> to know where to direct ourselves
--
Can you do that please?
**Download "smitfraudfix" http://siri.urz.free.fr/Fix/SmitfraudFix.zip
tutorial here: http://www.zebulon.fr/articles/SmitfraudFix.php
Unzip the entire archive into a folder you create in c:\ (where "windows" and "program files" are) and name it "smithfraud".
disable/stop your antivirus
Double click on "smitfraudfix.cmd", select 1 in the menu and press "enter"
at the end a text file opens, click on "edit" > "select all"
click again on "edit" "copy"
come here and right click > "paste", check if everything is there and close the text file.
in the smitfraudfix window type "q" then press "enter", send the report with a new hijackthis
see you later

**(show me the direction and I will find the way myself.)**

HO la la! It's the head, doctor. I had done a scan with HijackThis and I simply forgot to post it. You know, it's not an excuse, but I'm 63 years old.
So here it is: 1/ the SmitFraudFix scan (antivirus disabled but connection unplugged) and 2/ the HijackThis one.

re,
2 things to do please!
1°) **Download "Blacklight" if you haven't already and save it in a folder at the root of c:\ (where "Windows", "program files", etc. are…) and you can name it "Blacklight".
https://www.f-secure.com/en
Double click on "blbeta.exe" and accept the license; click on "Scan" > "Next"
A report "fslb-…" will be created in this folder. Copy and paste the content of this report here.
(( tutorial, https://www.malekal.com/tutorial-f-secure-blacklight/
https://translate.google.com/
2°) to attempt a repair of the system files (and this will be useful later, proceed to an integration of SP2 into a new CD, it's explained here:
http://www.zebulon.fr/articles/nlite-1.php
and let me know as soon as you are done.
see you

**(show me the way and I will find the path all by myself.)**

Hello, I have the same problem when I try to install my game. When I start the installation, it asks me to accept etc., then it asks me where I want to save the game data C:\Program Files\Codemasters\Colin Mcrae DiRT\. After that, when I click on next, the installation starts and it says: Error (-1014): Unsupported type encountered in registry operations.
What should I do?
What should I do?
Hello, I also have a problem with Adobe Acrobat Reader, and this has been the case since I got my PC (brand new!). So I followed the advice above, and here's the result. If someone can decode all this and let me know what's going on, that would be great!
