Cartridge Epson cost as much as the printer... But you can't buy a new one every time... because those that come with it have a very low capacity.. 8 ml

-- The solution would be to refill the empty cartridges... for this, you would need :

-- Buy empty 18 ml refillable and resettable cartridges

-- A resettable chip kit... replaces the initial chips

-- A filling ink bottle kit (100ml) for each color four or five depending and 200ml for Black

This operation is feasible about 8 to 10 times for the price of one Epson refill.

Plan work clothing, gloves, and do it in the basement so as not to dirty the whole house.

There you go, it’s true for all inkjet printers...

In 2019 (for the lockdown) I bought a Brother MFC-J1300DW printer for €284.

I have printed 1,400 pages with the same cartridges, and I can still print in black and white.

For quality, text and documents are quite decent. But it isn’t a photo printer; it can print photos but there is surely better available on the market.

This version is no longer manufactured, but the search should focus on cost per page, even if that means paying a little more upfront for the printer.

If it were to break down, I would probably go for a similar model.

Question: Do you use all ink cartridges or only the black color?

in terms of ink cost here are two figures from 2018 to 2020 with an HP printer with cartridges: +800 euros or 260 euros per year
from 2020 (August) to today 120 euros or 20 euros per year
