I then restarted the PC thinking everything would be fine and, not lucky! this message appeared:
invalid system disk
I/O error
Replace and press any key
what should I do???? I know nothing!
Can you help me please?
Thanks

I just had the same problem

reboot in MS-DOS with a floppy that has the FDISK utility and do from A:\> FDISK /MBR
This instruction rewrites the boot track of the hard disk

Hello

I also had that problem

this message:

io error
Replace it and press a key

to the cause:

the computer does not boot from the right place
you must replace the boot sequence in the BIOS
the computer can boot from A:, CDROM, C:, or others

some BIOS (CMOS) on certain motherboards lose their boot sequence commands
(reason: weak/dead battery or malfunction
or they revert to their default original configuration)

usually the configuration is A (floppy drive), C (hard drive)

you must use the boot diskette and from the back type sys c:
thus the boot files are transferred and the system reboots
here you go good luck

Hello everyone,
I followed to the letter the instructions that some of you proposed via FDISK for the message "invalid system disk I/O error" to keep appearing, even after rebooting with that famous floppy disk I got.
It is impossible for me to locate the root of A: or C:, which in this case brings me back to the start of my problem, namely the inability to reinstall the factory configuration CD.
Has anyone else experienced this and what other solutions are there to recover a root of C: or A:? Thanks in advance.
Best regards to all.

Following my message from 02/01/2004 at 09:41, I would like to add, which seems important to me to say, that before arriving at the invalid disk system message, my computer displays FLOPPY DISK(S) FAIL (40), which forces me to press the F1 key to continue the startup of the procedure and reach the famous fateful message that leaves me stuck in front of my screen!!!!!
Thank you again, Patrick.

I have your solution, I have 3 solutions because this happened to me too
- 1 you forgot to reconnect the power supply!
- 2 you made a mistake with the ribbon cable!
- 3 you misaligned the jumpers

Hello everyone... regarding the FLOPPY DISK FAIL (40) message, it's probably due to a faulty connection of the floppy drive.

Hello, I'm the noob of IT support...
Anyway, I'm rebuilding a computer (Win98) in my room right now and it's a monstrous mess. I thought, hey, let's do a little formatting... so here I am with a formatted C: drive. problem:
system disk not valid
I/O error
so I rush to my beloved XP and head to this forum...
I'm a beginner and I don't understand much of what you say, if someone could simplify things...
I don't know yet how to enter the BIOS but I'm working on it...
I think I'm in it but my computer doesn't respond to the DEL key to enter setup...
maybe it thinks it's in QWERTY... in that case I need to find THE key...

anyway, if someone can help me, that would be great

Hi, it’s not necessary to be DEL for the BIOS, but it can also be F1 just for information

Good luck

Hello
Be careful if you are on DELL for example, you must insert the DELL Resource CD (for me: device drivers, FAQs, etc..) and choose boot with CD support before you can insert the WIN98 CD and then type install at the correct root.

simply the solution to this problem is:
1- Press F10 to enter the Setup (BIOS).
2- Apply the default configuration.
3- Save and exit.
good luck

Hi everyone, I have the same problem. It’s a compact PC tower but there’s no floppy drive and I reformatted it, but it won’t do anything. It won’t boot from the CD and I’d like to put it back to 98. My disk drive is set to slave; do I need to put it to master? Thanks to anyone who answers!!!!
