Speed Dial Backups in Firefox

Hello,

I recently updated Firefox to version 12.0 and since then I have unfortunately lost all my group creations in Speed Dial, so I find myself back with the default settings of Speed Dial. I went into the Speed Dial options through the add-ons menu to restore the Speed Dial backups, and when I select a backup date, nothing happens; my Speed Dial still maintains the default appearance.

Therefore, I am reaching out to see if someone could kindly explain how to recover a backup in Speed Dial?

I hope I haven’t been too "incoherent" in my explanations.

Thank you in advance for your valuable help. ;-)

Hello jmarion3,

Thank you very much for your detailed explanations, which were very helpful.
I followed your recommendations and went to the link you sent me, applying each of the various instructions. I created a new Firefox profile by copying the SDBackups folder from my old profile to the new profile. But unfortunately, I still wasn't able to recover my old Speed Dial configuration. I went back to the Speed Dial options through the add-ons menu. Once in the Speed Dial options, I clicked on the "General" tab, then on "Settings" at the bottom left, and then on "Restore backups," choosing the date of the backup point, but nothing worked; the appearance of Speed Dial remained desperately the same. :s

I will keep fiddling with it just in case... and I will definitely keep you updated if there’s any progress.

Thanks again for your help. ;-)

Hello;

Have you opened the hidden SDBackup file from Speed Dial in your old configuration to check its content?
Another solution to try
1-Restore your system to a date prior to the Firefox update to revert to your old configuration
2-Check Speed Dial and its content
3-If everything is okay, make a backup of your configuration using this very handy utility >> Mozbackup
Best regards

Hello jmarion3,

Thank you for your comment, but I finally found the solution. ;-)
Apparently, it was a bug with Speed Dial according to an email I received from the developer I contacted.
Because it was anyway abnormal that I could not retrieve my old Speed Dial backups via the "Restore backups" menu in the Speed Dial add-ons options.

So I will post here the solution proposed by the developer in case it can help someone else who encounters the same problem. ^^

First, you need to download the .xpi file of the add-on via this link: http://speeddial.uworks.net/speed_dial-0.9.6.8-fx.xpi and save it in your chosen folder;
then go to the add-ons menu and once it's open, click on the gear icon at the top right and then click on "install add-on from file..." and select the previously saved .xpi file and finally restart Firefox.
Once Firefox restarts, you can finally restore the Speed Dial backups via the "Settings" button in the Speed Dial options by clicking on "Restore backups".

There you go, it seems a bit "tedious" like that, but it worked for me, and I was finally able to recover my favorite page groups in Speed Dial.

I do want to thank you for taking the time to read me and for offering your invaluable help.

It's quite normal to have replied. I find it very selfish to keep the solution to oneself when a problem is solved: it should also benefit others. ;-)

A big thank you for taking the time to help me with my problem. ^^

Best regards,

Hello;

Look at this link
You need to left-click on the question mark located in the Firefox toolbar, then Troubleshooting Information, and then Open Folder corresponding >> The file saved in your old profile is named SDBackups >> You copy this file and paste it into your new profile
To open the Firefox Profiles folder, you need to go to hidden files by enabling this option, then follow this path
C:/Users/Owner/AppData/Roaming/Mozilla/Firefox/SDBackups

Personally, I've never tried it, but it should work
Thank you for returning to the Forum to let us know if it’s resolved or not
Best regards
