remove yahoo from firefox Solved/Closed

Hello,
I am using Firefox (I actually upgraded to version 3.0 today but my problem is older) and when I type something directly into the address bar with just a word without a .com or anything, the search engine used is Yahoo. I can't stand Yahoo and I would like it to use Google like before. This has been the case since we installed the Yahoo toolbar. I uninstalled it, but the issue remained, and I find it bothersome.
Thank you for helping me because I have searched for a long time without finding the place where this can be fixed. Thanks in advance.

Indeed, at my place, it's PDFcreator that modified Firefox's behavior by installing its cursed toolbar... even when disabling it in Firefox, all the not found URLs were redirected to that cursed Yahoo!

Uninstalling PDFToolbars simply by pressing Windows+R then

Appwiz.cpl

allowed me to solve this very annoying problem...

Check the list for any suspicious programs corresponding to a toolbar and uninstall them.

Otherwise, check the installed plugins through the browser and delete those you don't remember installing!

grrrrrrrrr I have the same problem and when I close and restart Mozilla it tells me that someone has changed my search settings and automatically returns to Yahoo search grrrrrrrrr I really hate those little parasite programs!!!!

I'm explaining my situation regarding Firefox.

I installed a free program in French, and during the installation, it asked me something in English that had the word Firefox in it; I didn't pay attention and said "Yes".

Unsurprisingly, I ended up with the Yahoo toolbar under Firefox.

I uninstalled the toolbar, the Yahoo plugin from Firefox, but nothing worked.

That's not a problem per se, but that unwanted function is!

1: When a page doesn't load = I'm redirected to the Yahoo page, not the homepage but another one.

2: In the address bar at the top left, not the right one, I specify, if I enter a keyword, I'm redirected to Yahoo's search page.

I've been looking for several days, and just discovered that a program is present in "Uninstall or Change a Program" that I don't recognize.

So I delete it, a window in English appears.. I click "yes" and it closed Firefox while it was open.

Then I open Firefox, type a keyword in the top left address bar, and the result = no more Yahoo.

However, when I enter a keyword, there is no trace of Yahoo anymore, but it displays https://www.google.com/?gws_rd=ssl followed by the chosen word, so address not found lol

I don't know if that resolves the Yahoo case, but at least Google is there.

For those who are in the same situation as "gelay.julien", you need to follow the instructions found on this page (http://www.mybrowserbar.com/searchsettings.html?cnid=867034 and remove the "Search Settings" application from your computer...

After restarting Firefox, you'll return to the default settings.

When installed, Yahoo! Toolbar and other Yahoo! services ask if you want to use Yahoo! as your default search engine.

By default, when you type text that does not match a correct web address in the Firefox address bar, Firefox performs a "I'm Feeling Lucky" Google search. On the other hand, when you type text that does not match a correct web address in the Yahoo! address bar, instead of displaying a (single) arbitrary website, Yahoo! performs a full web search.

To restore Firefox's default behavior (described above), proceed as follows:

1. Open a new Firefox window, type "about:config" in the address bar, and click OK (or press the Enter key on your keyboard).
2. In the "Filter" field, type "keyword".
3. Double-click the "keyword.URL" line to bring up the dialog box to modify this setting.
4. Copy the following string: "https://www.google.com/doodles" and paste it into this dialog box.

Personally, I noticed a program in "install / uninstall" a program / Net Assistant.  I got rid of it, it was over!  And thank goodness because that crappy thing had really annoyed me!!!!

Even simpler with the recent versions of Firefox:
in the integrated search bar

click on "Manage search engines"
Then select the unwanted engine by clicking on it.

Note that moving Yahoo down doesn’t disable it, such a nuisance this thing!

Hello everyone, after long attempts and research to remove Yahoo DNS solution, I finally found:
- go to the question mark ( ? ) usually located next to tools;
- Then click on Restart, Disabled Modules
- Restart
- Reset (this does not delete your bookmarks, history, passwords... but just the add-ons)
Normally you should no longer have problems with Yahoo DNS solution.

I have a similar problem on Mac (10.9.4) with Firefox: An ugly rectangle from Yahoo appears unexpectedly, most often accompanied by the stupid message "DNS Solution Yahoo Error."
Yet my default page is Google and I never asked for Yahoo!

I typed "about:config" in the Firefox address bar and searched for the word "yahoo." To my great surprise, this word appears about 20 times in the settings, such as "browser.search.defaultenginename."
