Hello,
I've had an HP Photosmart C 5280 printer for 3 years now. Until a few weeks ago, I had no problems.
However, now as soon as I turn it on, it displays "consult the printer documentation." I looked at the guide online, but didn't find anything.
I searched the forums for solutions
- the expired cartridge solution: the cartridges had been expired since 2010 and were still printing without issues until earlier this month, I did buy a new cartridge, but still nothing
- installation question, everything is okay as well
I am running Windows 7.
If anyone has a solution, I would be happy to hear it (considering the price of this printer). Otherwise, I would like to know if it’s better to buy a cheaper one from another brand.
Thanks in advance
Configuration: Windows 7 / Firefox 11.0

no solution either
It's my second one (I'm a bit of a masochist on the edges) because I smashed the first one which had the same issue.
HP replaced it while making me swallow a commercial gesture that still cost me €120 (I'm also a bit of an idiot on the same edges as before).
This second one also has the same symptoms. But HP doesn't care, and if you want to get help online, you have to pay first.
They're crooks.
The cartridges are coded so that you can't use "compatible" cartridges on one hand, and on the other hand, they disable the printer when their expiration date has passed to ensure, they say, optimal quality.
Bunch of c...s!
I think I'm going to smash it too and I'll never buy HP equipment again.
