Hello,
Hello,
I bought the HP C5280 multifunction printer this weekend. Everything seems to be working except for the scanner. Indeed, when I start a scan, I get the following error message: failure, check that the power and connection cables are properly plugged in. I have checked a thousand times and everything is plugged in. Especially since I can print documents from my PC.
What should I do to make scanning work correctly?
Please help me, I’m starting to get frustrated!!

Thanks in advance
Configuration: Windows Vista Internet Explorer 7.0

Hello
I have an HP C5280 and I don't understand everything is okay, well installed, the only error message I have is Ink cartridges ... consult the printer documentation ... while the cartridges are properly installed, they are the right ones ... have you ever had this problem?

Thank you for your help!!

Hello Elyro
No, still not !!!!!
On top of that, it's a gift and I don't have the receipt...
Give me news if you make progress... I've tried everything... and I'm stuck...
Thank you!
Have a great day!

Hi,

It's resolved on my end, it's a defect in one of the cartridges.

I retrieved two old cartridges (350 and 351 empty) that I always keep for recycling, I tested by placing the black one in them, it didn't change anything, then the same with the color and there was a miracle, no more defect. I replaced the problematic color cartridge and it came back. I just had to identify the cartridge that was blocking and change it.

What bothers me the most is that this cartridge was a high-capacity, almost new one and no one will reimburse me for it! In the future, I will stick to standard cartridges as a precaution.

Hoping this will help you move forward as well.

Elyro.

Thank you... I had the same problem, I dug out my old HP cartridges and it works... are the refilled cartridges toast? And for the same reason, will my cartridge vendor down the street have one less customer??

HP C5280: uninstallation and reinstallation
To uninstall: use the control panel add and remove hardware, remove all HP.
Then C: program files HP delete the folder.
Also check that there is no HP in "common files" of the user folder.
Remove HP in the control panel "Printer" and also "Devices and Scanners".
Start, run "regedit" delete everything that is HP in …
Hkey-local-machine software
Hkey-current-user software.
If possible, delete temporary files (CCleaner does this very well).
To reinstall:
Go to the HP website and download the entire installation file, including drivers (do not run it but save it on the desktop, allow 45 mins). Once finished, turn off the machine.
Turn it back on, trigger the point.exe installation (do not plug in the USB cable).
Let the installation run and only connect the USB cable when prompted.
Once the installation is complete, do not attempt to work on it.
Close, turn off the machine, turn it back on (everything plugged in), it should work.
A test: go to control panel "scanners and cameras" click on the scanner, the Windows assistant should offer a scan.

Personally, I lost a lot of time and even money with the hotline for a machine costing 99 euros, which will end up costing me much more. Talking about my problems, I discovered that three people in my circle had the same issue with HP "all-in-one" machines across different models and years! ! !

Same problem on Windows 7.
After following the method described above step by step, everything is now working perfectly.
Thank you!!!

It's me again

the problem is solved

here's what I did

- Downloaded VIA 4in1 version 4.43 (VIA Arena) for WinXP
http://ww7.viaarena.com
- Downloaded the Basic drivers from the HP France website for HP C5280 (HP France product page C5280) for WinXP
- Updated Windows via Windows Update for Frameworks 3.0 tools (use Windows Update and advanced update)
- Clean uninstallation of other HP drivers and other USB drivers
- Restarted the PC and checked in the BIOS for USB 2.0 activation
- Waited for the reinstallation of USB ports and other peripherals by Windows (automatic procedure, see the tooltips)
- Installed the VIA 4in1 version 4.43 pack, then restarted the PC
- Powered on the HP Photosmart C5280 but not connected to the PC via USB, it must be done during the driver installation
- Installed the HP Basic drivers, followed the installation procedure, then connected the multifunction device via USB when prompted

at the end of the installation restart the PC, the product should work (at least it works for us)

Say hello to novice users of HP products, lol lol !!

I take the liberty of getting involved in your issue
For my part, it's not HP at fault but rather Microsoft Update that has mishandled the update attempts several times
At least for me with an HP C5280 SERIES

I just saw before going to bed lol that you had a problem under Vista, it's the same solution you take the VIA and HP drivers FOR VISTA instead of XP, on the same sites (plus you don't need the one for frameworks 3 under Vista), there you go, bye evielilly...

I hesitated a lot before buying the HP C5280: some apparently have installation problems on Vista. This printer, rated 4 stars in the Fnac 2008 comparison, also has very good reviews on lesnumeriques.com

I just installed it on Vista and had no problems. I obviously made sure to unplug before the internet connection and to deactivate the antivirus that could cause possible conflicts. The USB cable should be plugged in during the installation...when the software asks for it
Although a bit noisy, the prints are overall of very good quality.

Hi everyone. So, I would like to buy this printer, but I read that the USB power cable connecting the PC to the printer is not included... I'm not sure I understood correctly, do I need to buy it separately??
Aside from that, does it work well? Thank you.

Good evening,
generally all printers are delivered without a USB cable and there is no exception for this one (HP 5280)
and it also needs to be purchased. As for the value for money, it is excellent because I am a owner. And I am very satisfied with it.

Hi everyone,

I just got this printer with the brand new Vista Pro version. Everything is recognized and works perfectly. However, I have a little problem with the scanner. I can scan and reprint right away, I can also scan and save to a memory card, but I can't find how to scan directly to the PC? I tried using the provided software but it only allows us to share our images, etc. Do you have a solution to this thorny problem?

Thanks in advance for your replies

Hello and happy new year.
I have installed on my Mac 10.4 the HP 5280 printer
It came with the installation software and a blank CD (I assume it's the media for printing DVD labels?)
But could you explain to me how to use it? It would be nice of you.
I admit I'm not very skilled, but if you explain it to me, I will probably manage. Thank you in advance.

Hello everyone,
I'm still having the same scanner issue: I can't get my image on my PC, I have to go through a USB stick, which is very annoying to say the least.
Moreover, there's a new problem that came out of nowhere. When I turn on my printer, it automatically reinstalls itself as if it had never been installed. I have to reinsert the installation CD every time I use it!!! And HP keeps asking me to register it on the website, which I do. So in the end, I have three printers installed (copy 1 and 2), and only copy 2 is working, waiting for the day when "copy 3" will work.
I hope you understand and can help me resolve my issues, which are becoming very tiresome.
Thank you

For me, everything is working again. It was issues with the Windows version, I "feel." As I mentioned before, on Vista Pro, I plug it in, and boom, everything is recognized in a second, and it works perfectly. For the scanner, you need to install all the software that comes with the printer, because to start the scanner from the PC, you need to launch the Photosmart program, I think. For me, the printer works like everyone else's from the start, without being connected to the PC, so scanning, color photocopying, or black/white works perfectly fine connected to my two PCs.

For your information, the printer connected to the PC running XP SP1 didn't work. No matter how I connected the printer to the PC at the right moment during installation, it made no difference; the computer didn’t recognize the printer. Even carefully removing the old drivers to replace them with the latest ones, and rebooting every time, changed nothing (I must have spent a good afternoon on that). However, I simply upgraded to XP SP2, and then, as if by miracle, when I connected my printer, the icon for recognizing a new device appeared without even installing anything from the CD. Then, a few seconds later, still without doing anything, I saw the message at the bottom right "Photosmart C5280 printer ready for use." I opened Notepad, typed some random text, ctrl+p, and boom, I got a printout :)

However, later on, I still had to install the programs on the CD to be able to use the scanner because I had no idea how to start it. That's it!

Hello everyone!! I just acquired an HP 5280 printer, the printing is great and so is the scanning, the only "hiccup": printing on CDs, every time I put the CD in the printer (after carefully leaving the required seven centimeters), it shows up on the small screen as paper jam. I’ve tried it without paper, without the CD, without the cover at the back, nothing works, still the same problem.
Does anyone have a solution, as I am "slightly" nervous, my printer won't last long if this continues. Thank you...

I'm not sure, but in the HP Essentials program received with it, when you want to print on CDs, go to the top right just before (printer settings) and make sure to select the CD/DVD tray, which it does not do automatically.
So the complete path to be sure: create --> CD/DVD label --> print directly on a disc --> select a theme --> create (I have to create each time and go back to design the theme, I don't know why) --> print the disc label --> printer settings (at the top right) --> and in paper tray you put CD/DVD tray instead of auto selection.

Hoping this will solve your problem by allowing you to print on the CD and stop saying paper jam...
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Then for me ^^, I don't know if I'm the only one, but when I print on DVD, the print is shifted almost 1 millimeter upwards, which is annoying because it leaves a small white border at the bottom of the DVD. Is there a solution, am I the only one experiencing this?

Thanks in advance for the responses if there will be any ^^.

Hello, I have the same problem of almost 5 mm
since I'm printing with Nero 7, I know there's a possibility to calibrate the printer with a test sheet

in order to enter the correcting parameters. I haven't tried it yet, I hope it will work

if you found another solution, let me know. See you soon!

Hello, I also have problems with the C5280 printer; when I try to print, it says that the print spooler is unloaded. I tried to restart it, but it doesn't work. They say I need to load files into memory for later printing; I need your help, thank you very much, I am counting on you, that would be nice, THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!

Hello,

I just bought a new laptop (the Packard Bell easynote BG47 ultra-portable) and I wanted to quietly install my HP C5280 printer, which is also brand new by the way. I have a systematic problem towards the end of the installation (step 3/4): "Unrecoverable error during installation. The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package. This may indicate a problem with this package. The error code is 2203."
I have exactly the same problem when I try to install using the installation CD provided with the printer and when I download the full installation file from the HP website (100_235_PS_AIO_02_Full_NonNet_eng).

I couldn't find this mysterious error 2203 on the HP website, can someone help me please?

Thank you so much,
Ioana.

I just bought a new laptop (ASUS) and while my printer has been correctly installed, it doesn't print anything from the PC.
The documents to be printed stay in the print queue but nothing happens.
How can I solve this problem?
Thanks in advance to those who can respond.

Hello, I have exactly the same problem as evielilly. Everything works except when I start printing from my PC.
Are there any answers to the problem?
It would help me a lot, thank you in advance.

Our printer also wasn't working, bought in August 2008, sent for repair at Auchan where we bought it, still no change. We called HP for 2 hours and got nowhere, and today we changed the cable from the computer to the printer and it works. It took almost a year to find the fault. Good luck to you if you're in the same situation.

I had big problems with the HP 5280, still not resolved. The first one broke down after 1 year
no possible repair (customer service is terrible) I paid 90 euros for the 2nd one, it lasted 3 months and
here we go again. Silent customer service (thank you GEANT) I haven't heard anything despite several complaints.
I am going to buy another one. But I must admit I'm hesitating a lot. I'm checking out the stores. Exincourt 25 is over...

# Hello, I have an HP C5280 that worked fine under XP, but now under mac OS X I downloaded the new drivers, the printer is recognized and prints perfectly but I'm unable to scan!! After a second "an unknown error has occurred," nothing more!!!

I’m furious! If someone can help me, I’m all ears! Just so you know, a friend has the same issue with a Mac and the same printer!!!!

Same problem, no solution for now... It seems that Mac is the big forgotten one on the HP support site... Last time I buy their crappy products!

I just installed the Photosmart CD-ROM and I'm experiencing the exact same problem as you! It's impossible to scan, it always ends with "an unknown error occurred." While everything worked perfectly with my PC... Is there no one to help us?

Well, I finally found it! In fact, it's the installation CD that is out of date. So, you need to uninstall everything, restart, plug in the Photosmart, and then update the software from the Apple menu. After that, on the HP website, download the driver corresponding to Mac OS X 10.6 for this Photosmart. And then, everything will be fine!

Hello,
Two years ago I bought a C5280 printer, and since this morning when I try to print from my PC (XP PRO), it tells me that the device is unknown. I changed the USB port, reinstalled the printer, changed the USB cable, and the printer is still not recognized.
However, the photo and scanner functions (outside of the PC) work.
I fear it might be a malfunction specific to the printer.
Do you have a better solution? Thank you.
Jean Claude

I had the same problem, my printer was no longer recognized.
I tried everything: reinstalled my printer, changed the USB cable for a shorter one, etc. etc.....
By chance, I plugged the USB cable into the output of the USB HUB, and it worked.
The USB HUB can only function on USB2 outputs, and it slightly slows down the
transfer of print jobs to the printer.
But this way I was able to connect a Deskjet 3940 and an all-in-one C5280 Photosmart on the same USB HUB. Both work properly without interfering with each other.
However, in case of a paper jam, the content of the spooling queue is lost, and you have to restart the printing.

Well, that's strange because by the operation of the Holy Spirit I was finally able to scan from my MAC with this same printer, but I don't know why because I haven't changed anything!!

However, I still can't scan from my Photoshop, I have to use the software provided by HP.

Sorry I can't help you more, but HP technology remains a mystery to me as well.

Never buy the HP brand (PCs, printers, hard drives), otherwise you'll always have problems. Tell people around you! It's a brand to ban!

Hi,
I had the same problem on XP Media Center SP2 with a first installation (with a USB connection issue "please check" for the scanner, and with the second installation "message: file Scan not found (msi installer problem), third reinstallation "error hpqscnvw" and on the internet there were posts recommending to do the procedure you did, for me it was resolved by setting the msi service to manual and everything is back to normal, it's perfect, the software is fully functional.

I have the same issue with two of our users, but we only notice it on computers equipped with AMD platforms (motherboards) with VIA KT333 and VT chipsets. I am the network administrator and I am currently working on the problem; I am downloading the following updates:

VIA chipset driver >> VIA 4in1 version 4.43
VIA USB driver >> VIA USB 2.0 for 6212 series for additional PCI USB 2.0 card (ref VT6212L)
These drivers are available on the VIA Arena Downloads site; here is the current link:
http://ww7.viaarena.com

I am also checking for updates via Windows Update (in case of any driver links from HP with these updates)
Use the Start menu shortcut to Windows Update

Finally, I am downloading the latest version of the drivers (basic drivers only) for the HP Photosmart C5280 from the HP website
Here is the current link
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=mp-51132-3&lc=fr&cc=fr&dlc=fr&product=3204464&os=228&lang=fr

This is the PS AIO 02 driver only (for more precision)

Then I will see how it goes and get back to you, hopefully...
Also, be aware that the devices in question work perfectly in standalone mode (black or color photocopying) and also function on Intel platforms (we tested them on the test laptops)
Another curiosity after testing on the Intel platforms, the driver version shows version 5 (information on the printing test page) and curiously version 6 on the test pages on the AMD platforms (we will verify this curiosity on the HP technical forum)

Hello, I see that you've already had quite a few problems with HP and that you've resolved your issues. If I may submit mine, as HP is a bit lacking. Here it is: I have an HP C5280 since September, which was working very well. One day, I found myself with a solution center displaying around fifteen printers, but not mine. The solution center commands absolutely nothing. After several uninstallations and reinstallations following HP's advice, there was no solution. This week, after a complete uninstallation of dll files, registry keys, with CCleaner and in safe mode, I reinstalled it. First installation with error code 18265342. Second full installation with the device plugged in after the installation was completed. Updated Photosmart 3.0, but still the same problem. This installation was done with the supplied CD. When I install it with the latest version of the software, I get the new solution center, but empty with no printers. I installed the printer on another PC, and it works very well. Here is my hardware configuration: DELL Dimension 5150, XP Media Center, 250GB hard drive, 2GB memory, Intel Pentium 4 630 3000 MHz, Dell DM 051 motherboard, Intel Lakeport Gi945g North Bridge chipset. If you have a solution to my problem, thank you in advance. Best regards, Richard.

Hello,
I don't understand because before the error message appeared it was working very well and all of a sudden there was an error. So I uninstalled and then reinstalled, but that did not solve my problem. I still can't scan; the error message still appears. I don't know what to do anymore, could you please help me? Thank you.
