Problem with my C5280 printer

Hello,
I have a problem with my HP C5280 printer regarding my cartridges. When I put in my black cartridge, it works fine, but when I put in my color cartridge, it doesn’t work correctly. A message appears telling me to consult the printer documentation. I’ve done this, and once I follow the steps and instructions to the letter, the same problem occurs. I tried reinstalling my old cartridge, but it’s still the same. So if someone can help me, thank you in advance.
Configuration: Windows Vista Internet Explorer 7.0

the same for me, I put in cartridges from Cartridge World, and it works whereas the recycled ones from the clerk did not work... go figure

info for those who want it: to access the menu when it bugs:

1. press buttons "red eye" + "print photo" (on display "enter special key combo)
2. then press "red eye" -> "print photos" -> "red eye". (on display service menu).
3. Use ">"-button to find "reset" menu and confirm (OK)
4. Choose "semi-full reset" and confirm (OK)
5. Reset will start.)

Bravo for this trick that helped me debug the printer. Personally, I've had this machine for over 5 years and I've never had any issues; I only use recycled cartridges.

I contacted a seller who told me that it was possible to resolve the issue by removing and reinserting the battery inside the printer (which allows it to keep track of the date and time).
Can someone tell me where this battery is located on a HP Photosmart C5280?

Thank you

Good evening, I completely dismantled my c5280 printer (from 2009) with a TORX screwdriver size 10 and 6. I removed the connectors and I did not see this "battery." I cleaned the ink recovery rubber with swabs and alcohol. I reassembled it and the same issue: still "defective cartridges."
Weighed: empty = 37g, filled with compatible ink = 48g. Same defect message: "empty." I replaced the 2 original cartridges and the 2 compatible recycled ones in double. "Still empty," no printing but the scan works.
So I bought 2 original HP cartridges and now there is no defect, it works.

Good evening Skaramazov
What exactly do you mean by: overnight
The malfunction appeared without you touching anything....
What is the message about??? On the PC or on the printer's screen???
No blinking lights, no special error codes....??? Provide as many details as possible....
And also check what you can find here http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/solveCategory?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=en&lang=en&rule=23707&product=3204464&

I just contacted HP's customer service via chat, and the problem seems to be related to the expiration date on the ink cartridges, for my part a black one in XL that was still half full. I have to change it today and will keep you posted.

It means the message "cartridge problem" "check printer documentation."

As far as I'm concerned, the problem was simple: no more ink in one of the two cartridges!
However, the message was not clear at all!!

So here I am, I chatted with an HP advisor and it might be due to the expiration date indicated on the cartridge(s). I changed the expired cartridge; for my part, I had a black XL cartridge that was half full, and well, trash.

Yes, I confirm koil23; once a new cartridge is inserted, the problem disappears and everything returns to normal.
Personally, I would strongly advise against using XL cartridges for occasional use.
I use my printer sporadically, and after doing the math, the XL cartridges seem cheaper, but in the end, they are not cost-effective because they are time-limited; which caused the problem I posted about. A problem I have never encountered with standard-sized cartridges, even after several months without printing....
Is HP taking advantage of us????

I lost my installation software during a move. How can I get my printer working again? Thank you!

Good evening
You need to go to the HP site .... here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=en&lang=en&product=3204464&
You choose based on your OS, then you download and install the Full version of HP Photosmart drivers and software

Note that the drivers are installed with the PC/printer cable unplugged....

Hello
What’s this story about the expiration date?
The cartridges expire by themselves after a certain period.
What’s this scam? Is it on all current models?
I just sold mine to buy a new HP and I don’t use much color.
Thank you

Indeed, my issue was related to the expiry date (expired for a month), and it’s true that when you buy an ink cartridge, it's written on the packaging (expiry date). So frustrating to throw away a half-full XL cartridge.

I find that disgusting, I have the same problem, my cartridge is completely full and I have to throw it away!

For my part, I tried to reset the printer but it still won't accept my old black cartridge...
I think the only solution will be to replace the cartridge (thanks HP...)

Hello
Can you be more specific about the problem with the color cartridge that seems to be causing issues...
Please give the exact message.
You say it’s the color cartridge... but if you start by putting the color one in place and then the black one, don’t you get a different message????
Are the cartridges you install new or refilled - HP cartridges or others???

Hello, I have exactly the same problem as skaramazov.
The printer displayed this error message on its screen without me doing anything in particular.
I reinstalled the drivers, unplugged and then plugged the printer back in, but nothing changed.
On the HP website, there is no mention of this error.
No other error code (apart from an exclamation point indicating that there is a problem).
So, I'm stuck...
Will you be better than me, HP, and the posts already made?
I hope so!
Thank you in advance!

I just had the same problem this morning, result: After changing the black XL, the problem immediately shifted to the color (normal size); changing the color and boom, everything works correctly again.
On the advice of the technician at DARTY where I bought the printer, I used normal size cartridges; according to him, the XL ones are a regular source of issues because they dry out quickly if not used intensively (daily printing).

Hello,

I am currently having the same issue with my HP 350XL (black) cartridge which is not empty...
Does anyone know a way to "make the printer forget" that this cartridge is (supposedly) expired?
Thanks

Hi everyone

I have my HP C5280 printer that doesn't want to cooperate anymore
I tried unplugging it and plugging it back in, it doesn't work
I tried uninstalling it and then reinstalling it, it still doesn't work
There is still ink in the cartridges and they are not expired (10/21/2010)
So what is the problem
It always displays on the printer's screen! Print cartridges
Refer to the printer documentation
Thanks in advance

HP C 5280 printer
Same here, I have the same problem... always with the black cartridge!!!
Furthermore, some time ago another black cartridge had the same issue
As a result, when I had HP replace the defective cartridge, it worked for a while...
Are the cartridges to blame? Or the printer?
I don't know more than that...
If anyone has any other ideas!!!
