Files not scanned by avast

Solved

Hello,

Following the latest scan of my PC, Avast is notifying me that certain files "could not be scanned." The scan report mentions for each of them: "Error: the archive is password protected (42056)."

I have seen that this issue has already been discussed several times in forums.

Consequently, I performed a second scan with "Malwarebytes - Anti-Malware," which detected no infections (See attached report).

https://www.cjoint.com/?BCji4ZDS8GZ

Therefore, I was planning to immediately quarantine the unscanned files,

but I couldn't do it. It is impossible to select the files, as expected, and click on "Apply," a function that is not enabled. I could not find any explanation

on this subject in my Avast 7 tutorial.

Can someone help me resolve this issue? Thank you in advance for any helpful advice. :)

Configuration: Internet Explorer 8

    Re.

Thank you for providing more details. Taking into account what you told me,

I performed a customized scan (archives and Adobe Flash Player 10x).

I’m sending you the screenshot of the results of this scan in the hope that you'll receive it.

      :)

Run a Ccleaner to clear your temporary files and you won't have these messages anymore ;-)

I'm an expert on Avast :) just kidding, my name isn't Uncle Ben

      Good night as well

Talk to you later, Lusche Philippe

    Hello,

Open the main Avast window, go to Maintenance > Quarantine.

In the quarantine area, right-click > Add...

I don't know if that's what you were trying to do.

      Hey Destrio5,

      what he's talking about are files resulting from the Flash player installation found in the Temp files; just clearing them out is enough and that's it;

      I tried it first :)

personally never asking for reports, I’ve never had this issue, but after this post, I became concerned and, as luck would have it, I found the same files in the same location..

Clear the Temp files and then run a scan again, Nothing at all anymore ;-)

      Re Destrio5,

sorry, I forgot a little thing, the files are the same on my end, but the access paths are different

If you can keep an eye on it just in case ;-)

    Hello Lusche Phillippe

Cleaning with Cleaner, as I do every day. New thorough scan

    with Avast.

The 34 unwanted unscreened files are still there (See attached report)

    https://www.cjoint.com/?BCkmRGFjSSQ

The main thing, for now, is that there is no infection. :)

      Hello,

We suspected it a bit since the program files paths are different on your end and documents and settings for me.

However, the files are the same.

If you hover your cursor over the line, you should see the full path, can you share it with us??? It should be the same for each line (path) and indicate what the file name is.

For example, for me, it’s install flash player etc. with a .EXE extension.

Also check Destrio5's solution if the path for each line is the same.

      Re,

      example on my computer:

      C:\Documents and Settings\Home\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\YKGVC15J\install_flashplayer11x32ax_gtbd_aih[1].exe|>images\bgBody.png [E] The archive is password protected. (42056)

    I clicked on:

    Documents and settings
    All Users
Application Data ("Show hidden files is checked)
Alwil Software (I don't have Avast Software)
    Avast 5
Report (I don't have the quick scan or custom scan files).

      Hey,

      Open AVAST
      Tab launch a Scan
      Scan Now
      Quick Scan (settings)
      Report file
      Check Generate report file
      Perform a Quick scan

For Alwill software, it’s normal you updated the program through the program update function or you installed version 5 over 4.8, etc.… hence the difference in folder names.

After your quick scan, in the indicated path you will find the file Quick Scan.txt

      Hello Lynyrd Skynyrd

I did a quick scan, but I can't send it via "cjoint.com". It's too large!

The txt file saved in my documents is 2.21 MB!....:)

      Hello,

Don't bother sending this text file, what matters to us is to see what is written on those lines.

You were able to spot them in the text file, I remind you that you need to look for the lines "program files" and you will find your 34 lines.

Copy one or two and paste those lines in your next reply.

      No

it's the lines that have the error message at the end that interest us, they all follow one another and look like this at the end of the line:

The archive is password protected. (42056)

    Good evening

Since this is the first time I have unscanned files following an

analysis, I was unaware that it wasn't possible to quarantine unscanned files.

Ultimately, if I understand correctly, it's not a matter of

settings and the quarantine procedure can only be applied to

infected folders and files. However, the unscanned folders and files remain

suspect...?. How can I address this? :)

      Re,

To summarize a bit, it's been Pfuh it doesn't make me younger that I've been using Avast and in order to answer your questions exceptionally, I asked Avast to provide me with the report which is programmable.

So I did a scan exceptionally today to get this report and guess what, only the files proposed by the Flash update could be scanned.

So make a little effort and tell me which files are concerned.

I'll do another scan after I've made a change, so just a little effort on your part ;-) you have the report so nothing simpler.

    Re.caviar

This seems a bit complicated to me... If I understand correctly, I need to find the

access paths for all these files that are on my machine in program files.

    So I performed the following actions: ---- > (C) ---> folder Program

files ---> folder Adobe ---> Flash Player (and there I have a folder AddIns ---> air

    appinstaller.exe --digeste s... I think I've taken the wrong path... :)

      You open your Avast report:

      Documents and settings
      All Users
Application Data (if you checked Show hidden files and folders)
      Avast software
      Avast
      Report
And the quick scan or custom scan file

You look at the lines corresponding to C:\program files and you will find your lines.

But the unscanned files and documents remain

always suspicious...?. How can we remedy this? :)

    Hello

In the recent versions of Avast, it is the "boot scan" that allows for checking more files (all files opened by Windows at startup).
The scan is complete but slow, we only do it rarely if we have significant malfunctions, for example.

The question of password-protected archives is an ethical one.
The antivirus is a tool for protection against infections, it is not a spying tool. A password is clearly a mark of data protection and respect for privacy exists; the antivirus stops at the door marked by password out of respect for privacy.
If you want to go further, you know the files in question, the antivirus has not failed in its role of providing information.

Why does Adobe hide its files in password-protected archives? One might ask the question.

You can simply delete the files and reinstall from a safe source; that's the method when you can't verify dubious files.

You can use another antivirus; not all have the same limitations.
There are antiviruses that automatically quarantine files that they cannot scan or destroy them. Too bad if you can no longer work normally.

You can uninstall Adobe; you will lose some features on certain sites, but you eliminate an area of uncertainty in your PC. For example, there are other programs that read PDF files.

Note: this issue of unscanned files is raised only because Avast reports these files at the moment during a requested scan.
For speed reasons, not all files are fully checked at all times, whatever the antivirus.
You accept without batting an eyelash the verdict of Malwarebytes; there is no infection, yet a very large number of files have probably not been fully checked. You don't put them in quarantine for that matter.

    The 34 unwanted unscanned files
No, it is not Avast that called them unwanted. It simply said unscanned.
You have turned everything that appears in an antivirus report into unwanted and that is an error on your part.

I had the same problem as you, run Ccleaner and your problem will be solved.

And you do a thorough scan after Ccleaner and you'll see that the files not scanned by Avast due to the password will have disappeared. Best regards.

    Hello,

Now you can ask AVAST to scan all archives, this can be programmed, though I'm not certain that those protected by a password will be scanned.

    PS: Settings in the Scan

Thank you for your response, Lynyrd Skynyrd, but I would like, as I specified,

to put these unscanned files in quarantine. However, I am unable to

select them and click on "Apply," a function that is not activated.

My "Avast" tutorial does not specify how to set it up. :)

      Re,

You cannot quarantine an unscanned File/Folder

My "Avast" tutorial does not specify how to set it up.

What do you want to set up?
