Hi
Thanks for the tip.
Same problem after a brief power cut just before hearing the thunder.
I managed to delete the file without closing FF and now it's working. The file has been recreated and I'm saving without any issues. -
Thank you very much for the advice. I had the same issue and I didn't understand what had happened. And Julie is right, remember to show hidden files, otherwise I wouldn't have found the Application Data folder.
Everything is working much better now, thanks again :p) -
Help !
I have the same problem and it's driving me crazy!
I've followed the steps but I don't have a downloads folder. I'm on Vista, the latest version of Firefox, and I've made sure to display hidden folders. Even searching on the computer, I can't find that file.
What should I do?
Thanks! -
same problem and unable to find the file download.rdf.
However, I had GetRight when the problem occurred.
Since then, I have uninstalled it but no better results.-
Before finding download.rtf, you should locate the file/directory XY9283etc.default which contains download.rtf. Are your hidden files visible? I'm not sure, but you need to be in administrator mode and have the ability to modify your hidden files in order to find and edit or delete it.
However, I don't see how GetRight could interfere with Firefox's files. It definitely isn't him. This is related to downloading software or network managers, with restrictions on downloads or site blocking, for example. So it's controlled by the file that manages downloads. In principle, Firefox generates it automatically if it doesn't exist. That's why it was necessary to find download.rtf with version 1.5. It's also possible that Firefox has changed this file, but the principle hasn't changed. Instead of Download.rtf, it certainly has a similar name, but I haven't done any investigations in that direction for quite some time. Maybe another forum can help you. Keep me updated, thanks.

I did a search on the name, I found one that I deleted but it didn't change anything, still impossible to save...
going back to IE after so many years, crap, but I guess I'll have to :( -

it is not necessary to modify the following line:
user_pref("browser.cache.disk.parent_directory", "C:"); -
exactly the same problem as you
just change your default homepage (oh yes!)
https://start.mozilla.org/fr/
for another one like, for example: https://www.google.fr/?gws_rd=ssl you'll see that the problem will be solved! ;) -
Edit the prefs.js file with Notepad.
In the following lines, set the C: drive
Like this:
user_pref("browser.cache.disk.parent_directory", "C:");
user_pref("browser.download.dir", "C:");
user_pref("browser.download.lastDir", "C:");
I couldn't find the prefs.js file in the same location, but after the modification, it works again. Thank you.
However, changing the homepage was useless. -

Hello,
Same problem under Ffx 3.0.3 / XP2
My solution: change the download folder to a valid path ->
Tools » Options... » General tab: Downloads frame
(Actually, I was saving to a removable drive. After removing it, Ffx could no longer find the target directory :() -
