Sound that cuts out on its own Solved/Closed

Question

Hello everyone,

I’m writing to you because I have a problem with the sound on my computer.
Let me explain it to you the first time, don't hesitate to ask me for more information if you think you can help me but lack details.
When I turn on my computer, the sound works normally for over an hour often, and then it suddenly cuts out by itself. After that, it becomes impossible for me to get sound back without restarting the computer. When I restart, everything works fine again.

I had a bit of the same kind of problem and in my case (which is also yours, I think) it was the Windows audio service that was stopping
I'll keep it brief (to get the audio back on):

1) Press Windows+R then type
```
services.msc
```
-> click OK and wait ;)
2) In the first lines, look for the service "Windows Audio" -> right click -> start (in the dropdown menu)
3) Wait... and when the service startup window closes (by itself), you're good to go!

After that, I don't quite understand, the audio still wouldn't activate at startup, but after a certain number of reboots, I no longer had to do this manipulation

I had almost the same problem but it has been solved!!
For me, it was when I closed a window (like Word or Internet) my computer would turn off and then back on (a bit annoying)
We changed a card of I don't know what on the computer (I'm not very knowledgeable about it, but anyway...) a video card (for your problem, it must be something like a sound card) if all that exists of course!!
But I know there must be something to change in the computer (a thing that is in the central unit) and after that it worked very well!!!

heh yes kazed, but I think it's better if they check whether the problem is purely software-related
if you had a short circuit problem (I don't really know much about that either) it's for sure you couldn't do much fiddling with windows, but well...
I just hope none of them will have to do that kind of manipulation

I had the same problem, apparently a conflict between software. Uninstall Avast and everything went back to normal.

Hello everyone,  @ Maligorne Oo ... Well, that's something unusual! Apparently, this issue has been reported on many forums, but no one has an answer. I have a little idea, but I'm not sure. Can you just check the status of the "Remote Procedure Call (RPC)" and "Plug and Play" services in the services manager when your sound cuts out, please? (You can access it via command line with "sc interrogate " by entering RpcSs and then AudioSrv respectively) If either of them is stopped (which would surprise me for the first one), it seems to me that your problem might come from there. In the meantime, I'm still looking.  @ samy.c Alright, I will keep it simple. For various reasons, I think the issue comes directly from your sound card. Maybe it is poorly connected to your motherboard, maybe it is (slightly) dusty, who knows. In any case, I recommend you get a can of compressed air and clean your PC. If it's a desktop, I believe you just need to unscrew the side of the case and blow the air into all the corners you can reach. (I can't advise you more; I don't want you to take risks; if you want, you can try checking the tightness of your components) WARNING! Do not touch any components, and discharge yourself first (hold a coin for 30 seconds in your hand and take off any charged clothing (big cotton sweater^^)...) If it's a laptop, carefully blow air first through the fan's ventilation holes, then through all the openings you see. There are tutorials available everywhere on how to do it properly. You can also ask someone you trust to do it for you... :) Anyway, I think it's a hardware issue. Otherwise, I don't see anything else (for now^^). Happy cleaning! Well, I advise all of you, and especially you ttgaz (since you did everything ;)), to post your problem in a new thread on the Virus/Security forum, because "the cursor drops by itself in front of my eyes" I don’t find that very trustworthy...
If you’re feeling lazy, do all this: http://www.commentcamarche.net/faq/sujet 3174 virus preliminary disinfection method version fr and see what happens (you can post the HT in this thread, I'll give you my opinion, but I strongly advise getting it from ultra-experienced specialists from the V/S forum anyway).
I don’t know what AV/AS/FW configuration you have, but I strongly recommend Antivir Guard (Avast is a "sieve": http://forum.malekal.com/ftopic3528.php for some reading :)) / SpyBotS&D / ZoneAlarm (at the very least)

In short, I don't see any software problems that could cause this kind of issue. But I'm looking!

I realize that the last message is a bit old, but well
I also have a sound problem.

After I play a video game or watch a stream online, my sound card disables as if there were no driver on the sound card. To fix this, I'll try the operation mentioned above and see what happens.

However, I also had the issue where the sound decreases and practically goes to zero. This happened when I was looking for a good setting to install my microphone. For those who have this issue, maybe trying different sound settings could resolve the problem. Personally, I have muted a few elements (in playback I muted the microphone otherwise we have an echo when we talk into the microphone, for example)

Otherwise, after doing some research on other topics and forums, some have proposed solutions that should be tested by everyone:
Although no conflict is indicated in the device manager, update all devices.
Operation:
start-> right-click on My Computer-> Manage-> Device Manager
In the device manager and on each element, do:
click on the left crosses and on each sub-item right-click-> update.

I tried this, it gave me a lot of updates but my problem is still there, maybe you will have better luck (if luck has anything to do with computers! Well, if a good kick on a PC that costs over 800 euros works, LOL)

Hello everyone, I had the same sound problem that turned off by itself. I struggled for a long time before finding the solution, but here it is for those who still have this damn problem. In my case, it was neither a driver issue nor a virus, but just my keyboard. After taking it apart, I noticed that the mat inside, where the volume keys were located, had a crease, so the sound contact for it to lower was always activated. And there you go, so try another keyboard and that will solve it. See you later!

Having the same problem, I found a solution to no longer reboot the PC every time (: .

Open the volume control and check the boxes: synth. SW, CD Player, Aux/Phone.

I don't know if this solves the problem, but this morning I had no sound, I did this and hallelujah, the sound came back like this :P

If the problem persists despite all this, use your warranty. Personally, no solution worked for me, the Fnac customer service couldn't do anything even after formatting, so they exchanged it for me.

Even if we don't find the solution, it's important to know the reason why, that's already something. Did you install anything new a few hours before this problem?

I had the same issue with the sound turning off by itself.

Since the services.msc restart function didn't work, I tried clearing all the Firefox cache with CCleaner and it worked.

Hello everyone :)
So I've found the solution to help with the sound issues ^^
Your sound stops after a certain time, so here’s what to do:
-Start
-Run
-services.msc
-OK
-Look for AUDIO WINDOW or something like that
-Right click
-Start
There you go for the desktop PC :D
For the HP laptop (I found it by chance :O)
-Shut down your computer
-Restart and press the QUICKPLAY button right after loading, the application will launch
-Once loaded, click on the WINDOWS icon (you should recognize it)
-This will restart your computer WITH sound
PS: If the application keeps restarting, shut down the PC and restart it, enjoy and good luck to you
DPS: Only press when the sound isn't working, no need to do this every restart ^^

I know the topic is old, but I discovered something this morning for this issue. Here’s the procedure to follow on Windows 8:

Go to Device Manager, check the different audio, video and game controllers, look for any device with an unknown location. If you find one, disable it and see what happens. If the sound comes back, it means this driver or device is corrupted.

Hello everyone, well the messages are from 2008 and we're in 2014, but if you have sound problems with intermittent sound on a laptop or if it cuts off every ten minutes, you need to look in the control panel, uninstall the programs
and display the updates, then sort them by date. Click at the top on date to sort them, and delete the updates from the current month or even the previous month, and I promise your sound will come back like before. I just had to think of that, and that was my issue.

I also had this problem and after trying the solutions mentioned above, nothing worked; it was always the same issue.
So I thought about taking a look at the driver, I disabled and re-enabled it, and as if by magic, the sound came back. It's silly not to have thought of it before :s (it's the driver that's crashing ;) )

You can go to:
1) Control Panel > Sound

2) In the top bar under "Playback" > select speakers > "Properties" at the bottom

3) In the top bar under "General" > Controller Information > "Properties" > Change settings

4) In the top bar under "Driver" > disable and re-enable the driver

(For Windows 7 system)
