Hello,
I have a power-on password that I forgot on my Compaq Armada 1700. I removed the battery as well as the CMOS battery to clear this password. I reconnected the CMOS battery and a system message 162 appears, but the password persists. Is there another solution?

Well, a little help for those stuck with this damn Power On Password! (here the example is for a Compaq Armada M700)
!!!Disconnect all power sources well in advance (battery and cable)!!!

1) It's usually unnecessary to disassemble everything; just remove the integrated modem card! In fact, the CMOS battery is located at the bottom right (in the corner) and is connected by a small cable (red and black double) to the rest of the motherboard!! (note that it is annoying to take off and put back on)
2) After removing this small cable, you need to wait a good ten minutes (having removed the battery and power supply well beforehand)
3) Reconnect the double cable (the red and black to the white end) after this manipulation, reconnect the battery or power supply directly and restart the computer!
4) The BIOS is flashed; it will invite you to change certain options, like the language or other settings, it should normally detect the RAM, and after checking in the BIOS password (where, of course, the passwords will have disappeared), the restart will proceed as it was when you left it before!

Now I've also heard about moving the jumper, but the Compaq M700 motherboard had none; I stumbled upon the battery by chance after taking everything apart!
From what I've seen online, there might be an EPPROM to change on the motherboard, but honestly, I'm not good at this kind of thing, especially since you would need to reinstall the EPROMS coding with the equipment and the source code too!

So there you go, well since 2003 I think things must have evolved, but let's be honest, it's always nice to be able to help each other out!
