Hello everyone,

I just bought a laptop and I'm currently using the pre-installed version of Word, but I can't determine if it's from 2007 or 2010.

I'm unable to find two very important features for me, namely "Footnotes" and "Track Changes." I'm not sure if I've just missed them or if they need to be installed through a manual process?

Could someone please shed some light on this for me?

Thank you in advance for your help!
Best regards,

Seewebel

If you don't have those tabs, it means you don't have either Word 2007 or 2010. And since you just bought your computer, it must be Word Starter, the free pre-installed version. Very limited in its features. In particular, it doesn’t insert footnotes.

Check in Start / Programs / see if it's the Word Starter version.

Your invoice too. If you had bought Office 2010, the invoice would mention it because it is not free.

Hello Seewebel the impatient...

In Word 2007, there's an Office button with a logo.
In Word 2010, it has been replaced by the File tab.

In both versions:
- Footnotes are in the References tab / Footnotes group / Insert a footnote...
- Track Changes is in the Review tab...

Yes!!!! You are right, it is indeed Word Starter. Thank you for your explanation: now I understand. I didn't see why these basic functions were missing, but now I grasp the issue better.

Thanks for all your help, Argixu! At least now I know where my problem comes from.

Hi Argixu,

I'm not really impatient, but I was worried that my topic would end up on page 25 of the forum tonight... And since I don't know who else to turn to for this kind of question, I'm trying to keep track, in every sense of the term.

Thank you very much for your reply: unfortunately, the problem is not resolved. I think I'm under the 2010 version because the logo you mentioned for 2007 doesn't appear. However, there is no "References" or "Review" tab.
