Footnotes do not follow in sequence

Hello,
Word documents (thesis in 9 parts) with page breaks between each chapter, the numbering of the footnotes is incorrect: it jumps from 286 to 329 between 2 chapters.
This thesis is due tomorrow morning... a lot of stress generated by this last-minute issue.

Hi,

in the insert menu, page number, you click the format button and choose numbering pages continuously from the previous section.

  Another possible source of problems: revision marks can create a discontinuity. Accept the revisions to set everything right!

Hello,
I have the same problem and I have to submit my thesis in a few days. The footnotes are not sequential! I feel like I have two sets of footnotes in the same document. Is that normal? How can I resolve this issue and merge the two?

  I’m not sure I understood correctly: you’re talking about "footnotes not following each other" and you want to "merge the two". What do you mean by "merge"?
  For the footnotes that do not follow each other, right-click in a note, select "Footnote Options", and make sure that "Continuous" is selected in the "Numbering" field.

    Thank you for your reply. The footnotes are indeed in "continuous" mode. I hope the example below will help you understand this issue. For instance, footnote 111 should logically be followed by footnote 112. However, in my document, footnote 39 follows 111.
    Specifically, they follow each other like this:

    39 ccccccccccccc
    40 ddddddddddd
    41 eeeeeeeee
    113 ffffffffffffffffffff

    I have worked on several versions of Word, and I think that's where the problem comes from... but I don't know how to solve it!

    You can try converting your footnotes into endnotes and then converting them back the other way.

In the same vein as C-Claire's suggestion, whom I greet, I could propose that you make a copy of your work, select the entire document, change the numbering format (after right-clicking on one of the NBP and choosing Notes Options) and start again with the first format; it only has a 10% chance of working, but still...
